You know, I've tried to put up w/all this, I've tried to be the improbable
optimist. But no matter how hard I try, it's like sand slipping through
my fingers -this is just plain sad. That through a combination of poor
marketing and stupid, ignorant, mac/winslows buying consumers, such an
excellent machine as the amiga – what is probably the only TRUE "personal"
computer because of its versatility – could be on the brink of dying like
this. It just makes you want to bury your face in your hands and say
"How the ***k could this happen? And why? ARe we so easily deceived?
WHy do I ask so many questions?"
Which is better for heating up frozen dinner, Power PC or Pentium?

I'm sure most of us have felt similarly, but the hour of darkness is not
upon us yet so cheer up. Just between us though, technical excellence has
never been a reliable predictor of success in the computer market. I work
with PC's every day on networks, and shake my head a lot. Quietly.

The AW hotline (which seems like it should be more reliable than most of
what has been said here in the past) now has it that the final decisions
by the court will be made 25 July. That means we should know for sure at
least by mid August.
As dor the deceived part, I don't believe most Amiga owners were ever
deceived at all. I am being completely honest, not attempting to flatter
or gsom browny points when I say that most Amiga owners are generally more
technically oriented and generally smarter, computer-wise, than the
average personal computer user. I think most bought what they believed
(and I beleive) was a technically superior product with the full
realization that they, as users, had a mucch better appreciation for what
the machine was and could do than the people whose job it was to market
it. Most of us knew the risk of the current situation was real, probably
long before we bought that second/third/nth Amiga or serious upgrade
product – admittedly many people denied such a thing could happen, but I
think it was for morale reasons rather than any real statement of belief.
At any rate, after hearing the AW message on the phone yesterday I am more
hopeful than I have been since this started. And either way it turns out,
we no longer have to deal with the frustration of idiotic marketting,
ridiculous product developments (IDE, slot poor machines, powerless power
supplies, busted busters….) again.
So, hang in there a little longer, and remember that no matter how it
turns out you have been part of the presonal computing elite – those few
willing to take chances with a crappy company for the sake of a great
product. You are a principaled consumer, and there is no shame in that.
