#68060 accelerator-a4000
10 messages in this thread
Advanced Systems & Software announces their newest addition to the Amiga
community, despite Commodore's departure. The only 68060 accelerator available
and announced for the A4000. This is not vapor ware, we have it running at 82
MIPs, to be faster by release in August and 28 MFLOPS. Compare that to a stock
A4000 that runs at 28 MIPs and 16 MFLOPs. As one reviewer said when he saw it
in Europe, "I have seen the future." In addition to this accelerator will be a
module that attaches containing a FAST SCSI-II interface, high speed serial
ports and Ethernet controller. Enter the future NOW.

I would be more than interested in learning about this. Will the SCSI-II have
problems with my Buster chip (my a4000 has one of the early defective Buster
chips). Is it compatible with the 68040/030/020/000 chips? How MUCH$$$$$?

This sounds very exciting. I have had some personal experience with the
Warp board from Macrosystems US. The Warp board is an excellent and
relatively inexpensive upgrade for the A4000 system.
I am very curious as to the pricing and how much memory the unit will have
on board.

Will this accellerator work with original vintage a4000's… IE, busted
busters, original CPU board (I guess the original CPU board gets tossed…
oh boy :^)

How many slots of what variety does it use? How many case slots (you know,
the holes in the back where you make the external connector to a board
available, sometimes erroneously referred to as "Backplane slots"….)?

What are the software issues of moving to an 060? Is the MMU in an 060
different such that 68040.library needs updating along with tools like
Enforcer?
Do you have a MapROM circuit like the stock CPU cards and some third-party
cards (but unlike the Warp)?
Do you have SIMM sockets on the CPU card, and if so, what SIMMs do you
accept? If not, how much faster could you really be than the Warp?
How much heat do you generate? I assume that the 3.3v 060 makes it so
that 4000s with your accelerator run significantly cooler than stock or
expanded systems, drastically cooler than 40mhz 040 systems.

I've got one question about your 060 board. Will it fit in a 3000?
Please say "YES!". 🙂

Now how does this compare to POWERPC?
Which is better for heating up frozen dinner, Power PC or Pentium?

Nathan,
The Pentium is MUCH better at heating up u-wave dinners.
