What is the best and fastest method to get fonts from an MS-DOS CD rom to
Amiga DOS format for use by Fountain? How do you tell that an MS-DOS font
is Compugraphic? How can you get it in bitmap or outline form so that
Fountain can deal with it? Any background info on this subject would be
much appreciated.

If your trying to get the fonts off the IBM, and into the Amiga, try
copying the font files to a 720K DSDD floppy disk, and using a utility
like CrossDOS to read the disk on the Amiga. Or you could use a NULL
modem cable and a term program on each machine to transfer them.
Once you get the font files onto an Amiga disk, HD partition, or RAM-DISK
you need to make sure they're unpacked if they are archived in ZIP, LHA,
or LZH formats.
The fonts will need to be Agfa CompuGraphic fonts, the MS-DOS fonts may be
listed as being CompuGraphic FAIS.
Once unpacked on the Amiga, place the fonts in a location that you can
find them easily (in a special directory perhaps.) When you run Fountain
(or IntelliFont), there should be an option for selecting an 'Outline Font
Source'. This will allow you enter/select a path to the directory where
the new fonts are located — Fountain will be looking for the files that
end with '.type'
Once a CG font is located/selected, Fountain will allow you to install it
to one of you font directories.
Fountain can add CG fonts to the Amiga, or modify an installed CG font to
create more point sizes, or create a bitmap version of that font.

Thanks very much for the help! The fonts are on a CD rom. I access them
from the CD hooked up to my Amiga, but none of the fonts show up in the
Outline Font Source window in Fountain. I assume this is because they are
not CompuGraphic…they don't have the Agfa or FAIS label. Oh, shucks!

You still might be able to use the fonts with an Amiga wordprocessor that
supports outline fonts.
FinalCopy-II & FinalWriter support not only their NimbusQ fonts, but Agfa
CompuGraphic fonts, and Type 1 fonts.
I believe a few others, like ProWrtie, also support Type 1 fonts and
others.
