I have a PP 040 in my 3000 and I've been wondering if replacing the DMAC
and Ramsey chip would allow me to discard the phoney PP ram chip. Did your
040 need this chip and if so are you able get rid of it now.

If by phoney PP ram chip you mean the Page Mode Zip they included with
their 040's to allow the thing to function on some A3000/A3000T's, the
answer is yes. I have the latest revisions of DMAC & Ramsey, and have had
no failures what so ever, not to mention being able to use burst mode.

That's great news. How difficult are the DMAC and Ramsey to replace?

The chips are pretty cut and dry to replace… you will need a square (IE:
Agnus) chip puller unless you trust yourself **ALOT** with a needlenose
screwdriver.

Sorry, up here in Seattle we call them needlenose screwdrivers instead of
jeweler's screwdrivers. :>

When I lived in the Seattle area, Nirvana and Pearl Jam hadn't been
invented yet, and we called them tiny screwdrivers or jeweler's
screwdrivers. I kinda like grunge music sometimes, but I see it's causing
the area to deteriorate. 🙂
