#Lightwave-NT?
9 messages in this thread
Wandering through the ASOFT forum I came across a rumor that Lightwave was
going to be released on Win-NT. Any truth to this, or is this an old rumor
comming around again?

Sounds like a reference to the Screamer-Net LW rendering engine for NT,
which Raptor users run.

FWIW, Dan Bloomfield mentioned the SGI ($5-10K) and NT($2-3K?) versions may be
announced on FidoNet. Don't know where he heard that (rumour?), but he
mentioned it twice. He worked at a dealer, who also subscribed to the Channel
4000 DTV thing, though I don't know where he heard it.

No, the person was not referring to the ScreamerNet, we are talking full blown
LW no Amiga required. I suppose a few people around here know, but they can't
tell. 😉 (BG) There is only a few weeks till SIGGRAPH, ask again then, the
rumour will be true or it will die till the next time!
PMFJI, but I read this the other day, and found it somewhat interesting:
From POST magazine, June 23, 1994, pg. 53:
"And now that ScreamerNet rendering software is available – on the Amiga,
SGI, and IBM platforms – rendering issues are resolved, says [Donetta]
Colbach [NT's director of marketing]."
So, does anyone know if this Donetta Colbach still works for NewTek? And
if she does, who else has she told this bit of info to?!? (This is the
first printed version of the rumour I've seen.)
BTW, the whole article makes for interesting reading….

Donnetta Colbach was with Tim Jennison and Co. Saturday at our Toaster
User Group Meeting. They confirmed that the ToasterNet Software was to be
ported to support other platforms now they have completed the Raptor port.

Cool! Did they have a projected shipping date? (Lemme guess….2-3 months
_after_ announcing it at SIGGRAPH? :^)
Thanks!

I suppose it will be in the usual Newtek" Timely manner".<: Siggraph
should bring more announcements too.

Will you be going to SIGGRAPH? I won't be able to make it over to the East
coast, but I'm hoping one or more of the regulars here on CIS will provide
their usual comprehensive on-the-spot coverage.

Not this year. We were lucky to have Siggraph in Orange County, Calif.
last year, our hometown. I hope the regulars give it a good blow by blow
description. A truly inspirational show for all us RenderRats.( RenderRats
can be denoted as pale individuals sitting in small dark messy rooms into
the wee hours of the night, gazing into small bright monitors and swearing
about Nonplaner polygons to themselves:)
