>>Waiting for the Imix… Whazzat? Is that the big non-linear editting thing used on Macs and Amiga's?

The IMIX CUBE is a box designed to do non-linear editing in real time. Although it uses a MAC to run the control software it has its own hardware for the drives, DVE and file management. Unlike the other non-linear editing systems all the cube's effects are done in real time just by calling them up and no waiting for rendering. It's I/O is Y/C. Its output quality has gotten mixed reviews. In my opinion the Media 100 had the best looking output but requires much time to attain this as many options are available for input file format. With the cube the file input format is averaged and therefore the quality is compromised. A video producers group I'm associated with chose the cube as the best overall performer based on production efficiency, operational ease and quality. It was also the most expensive system we looked at coming in at $62,000 with the options. A purchase proposal has been submitted but final decision has not gotten back to us yet.

Thanks for the info. IMIX sounded familiar and I was just looking for a reminder what it was. At the moment it's about $60K too much for me. <g>
