#MFCJournal Issue #2
14 messages in this thread
Here's the latest scoop on issue #2:
Issue #2 was mailed June 26-27 via bulk rate mail. Note that bulk rate mail
can be a lot slower than first class…
WARNING: Magazines are mailed in envelopes with the SFA logo and return
address. There is NO indication on the envelop that it contains anything to do
with MFCJournal. With the bulk rate postal stamp, you may be tempted to throw
the envelop out unopened as junk mail (yes, it has happened…).
If you receive a magazine-sized envelop bearing the SFA logo, make sure you
open it before you just pitch it!!

Mary,
I always open all my mail before pitching it. But I for one, am still waiting
on issue 1. I've sent off two e-mail notes to SFA via internet, and gotten no
reply. If there is anything you can do to find out what's up, I would
appreciate it.
If I'ld known it was getting to Europe quicker, I would have had a copy sent to
my hotel while I was in Germany last week <G>. Of course, knowing the Chicago
postal system, they're probably in some mailman's basement somewhere <G>.

Larry,
I'll forward your message and ask someone to get in touch with you. Are you in
Chicago?? Between the problems SFA has been having on their end, and the
reported problems with postal service in Chicago, perhaps it is not suprising
that you haven't received anything… I'm beginning to wonder if we would have
been better off with an electronic magazine. <G>

Mary,
Well, not in Chicago itself, I'm a little furhter west. But everything in this
area goes through Chicago. Still, with all the mail problems, its better than
about 6 years ago when the phone company burned down their main switching
station, knocking out all phone service for a month.
Thanks for looking into this for me (of course, now the stupid issue will
arrive in Monday's mail, knowing Murphy and his very annoying laws <G>).

How do I subscribe to this journal? Randy Leigh
Randy,
Check out the file MFCJ.ZIP in the forum library, section 15 ("Unmonitored
Chat"). It should explain everything you need to know…if not, feel free to
ask.
Thanks for your interest!

Mary,
An electronic edition of the MFCJ:
As far as I am concerned this would be a great idea. Advantages invclude:
I can cut and paste source code.
Faster mail (and lower mailing costs)
No piles of old magazines cluttering my house (actually because you nice people
at SFA use (non-glossy) recycled paper, I can re-recycle it. Glossy paper is no
good.
I can store <lots> of magazines zipped down onto a floppy.
Disadvantages:
No pictures (not a major problem, but would spoil the article on CTL3D)
No hardcopy to show colleagues

Mary,
Just caught this thread about the magazine, I'm only a sometimes lurker <g>.
How does one go about arranging to receive these "plain brown envelopes" <vbg>?
Best Regards,
Mike
Mike,
Check out the file MFCJ.ZIP in the forum library, section 15 ("Unmonitored
Chat"). That explains how to get a subscription. Since I uploaded the file,
the phone number has changed. It is now 408-245-0571. (Actually, the address
has changed too, but I don't know what it is yet…).
Thanks for your interest!

Thanks very much. I'll D/L it on this pass.

Has anyone actually received this issue? I am about to call these clowns and
drop the A bomb on them? But if anyone has received their issue? I will hold
out a little longer.
Dan Pav
Nicholas,
I received one. It is a great issue! I'd wait a while before dropping "A"
bombs. There's got to be a law against that somewhere on the books.
Tom
I've got my copy of MFCJ #2. It arrived a while ago. Keep witing…
Tim Bergel
I just got my copy yesterday, so there is hope. Keep waiting for a while yet.
