Paul – Where should I look for you on the InterNet? Mark rmbesset.@mit.edu

Mark, You can reach me directly at plind@infi.net We're working on an anim8.com but don't have all of the parts in place yet. Hopefully it'll be there right after Siggraph. We're trying to get it setup on our in-house network so that you can send files directly to us, but in the meantime the infi.net address is my port of call. As to general Internet ramblings from us, we spend most of our time in the animation/graphics and sgi forums. We're also on the Alias and Wavefront listservers. Paul

Could you tell me where some good sites on the net are for obtaining objects and or texture maps. Also what are some good animation/graphics and sgi forums? Could you give me information on how to get to them. Cause we just got a t1 line in and surfin around is pretty addicting? thanx, Fred N.

Fred, T1? Wow, I'm extremely envious. 🙂 I'm not sure how long you've been surfing around but the first place to hit is avalon.chinalake.navy.mil, it's the Net's repository for objects and textures. There are hundreds of great things there. Additionally if you are new to Internet, the first thing to do is to jump into a few Usenet groups ala: alt.graphics.pixutils comp.graphics comp.graphics.animation comp.graphics.visualization If you're running SGI machines you'll probably also want to hop on comp.sys.sgi.graphics Also I don't know what, if any, other 3D software you're running, but there is an Alias listserver, a Wavefront usenet group, and a number of other select lists dealing with specific programs, techniques, tech support, etc. Play around with some of that stuff and if you get bored, give me another yell. Paul P.S. – Also you'll probably want to grab the comp.graphics.FAQ, that'll outline a number of sites and answer the vast majority of the questions you might have.

Thanx for all the info. Unfortunately I can't access the avalon site yet, because of some ip host setup thing, but I'll leave that to our system admins.

Glad to be of assistance. Hopefully your sysadmin people can get you access to avalon. Since it's the Net's repository for meshes and the like, no-one on the Net should surf without it. Paul P.S. – In the event that you don't get access to the site let me know, and I'll get a list of mirrors for you. You're bound to be able to get on one of them.

I missed the first part of this thread. If this is refering to an area of the InterNet, could you re-post the address? Thanks, Greg
