I have been attempting to solve a prob with an AMiga 500+. I normally do PC
Systems but am doing this as a favour for a young student. He bought a Citizen
ABC Col Printer and cannot get it to print. I have Workbench 2.04 and
installed the printer driver into the Devs/printers Icon. Every program I use
DPaint III, Print Studio etc always results in an inability to communicate with
the printer. I have checked the cable and the self test on printer. A red
message comes up, most of the time stating software failure, suspend/reboot.
Could the Computer be faulty.

yes, the computer could be faulty. Another thing, the only 'red
message' I've seen has some numbers in it. They're not there for the
programmers health. If you tell us what they are, we MIGHT be able to
induce what's wrong.
