#Which AmigaVision vers?

Tried to D/L AVPlayer yesterday, but had write to H.D. problem. Think it
thought there was no space left cause the FAT cluster table got messed. It's
fixed. Only, Norton Diskdoctor for Windows seems to crash if you cancel partway
through. Blasted PCs. Last night my GVP SCSI decided there was a problem:
"30Meg free, 0% used" Did that cause Ami any problems? No, just went "Hmph.
Guess I'd better validate that drive!" and spun away to itself for a couple of
minutes (while I was still using the machine) and when I checked again, back up
to 99% used (sigh) again.
As I understand it both your DOS & Amiga machines were on the blink? You
must have "Murphy Field" around you. That's what people say about me.
I'm able to crash or otherwise f/u almost any computer.

YES!!!
The AVPlayer program DOES appear to work with AV1.53g (unless it installed some
libraries while I wasn't looking. I made a couple of little presentations, and
they worked fine. Probably SOME problem, but none YET!

Not so much "both" machines were on the blink, I managed to get WinCIM confused
and crashy and the HD got a little confused, and the Amiga had a minor hiccup,
that I only noticed because the HD light was on for a long time…
Okay, ya, both were freaky. But they're okay now.
I've got about 4-8 IBM PC XT's that have various problems too 🙂 I put an ad
in the local paper, but no bites yet.

Great about AVPlayer! AVPro has some nice features over it's ancestor but
if 1.53 is enough for you then go with the "flow." What sort of
applications do you want to develop?
XT's can be hard to get ride of. I usually drop the price as low as I'm
willing to bear just so they move quickly. I figure I would probably end
up selling it for that price so I just start off at the beginning.

I have been thinking about doing a couple of apps. One would be a kiosk about
a kids group I work with, and the other would be an educational thing for my
pre-school kids.
What does ActiveMedia do? Sounds familiar.

Grant,
ActiceMedia is actually a generic term, a.k.a. multimedia, that I use. I
sorta coined up the term (perhaps it is used elsewhere if you recognize
the name). As you can probably guess, it is an amalgamation of
Interactive and Multimedia. I feel that it better describes the type of
communication that the word "multimedia" is used to describe: ie. a
(multi)media which is inherently (inter)active. The problem with the word
MultiMedia is that it can be anything from paintings using multiple media
to slide shows to video to interactive communications.
ICAM is the name of my company that I do some freelance work under. I'm
still new to the money making game but I believe the time is right so I
HOPE to start doing some "way cool" apps RSN.
Kids stuff is a good place to start. I believe you have more freedom to
be creative and it is more fun. Have you done much else? The thing that
gets me about this type of production is that it takes so long to do
anything (at least for me). If you haven't considered it already I'd
recommend finding an associate (or two…) to work with.

I've been gradually developing an alphabet drill program in BASIC, hopefully,
ACE soon as the one with the FONT command is ready since I can't get it to open
right yet. I have that magazine copy of AMOS which would make it easier to add
sound and graphics, but I find it hard to figure out all the ins and outs with
a proper reference manual.
It's just for my kid at this point (Daddy, can I play with "my" program), but I
suppose ya never know…

I got that AMOS program as well but I never bothered with it due to the
lack of a manual. I often consider getting AMOS PRO but I mostly use the
Director if I want to do any coding. Have you used the Director at all?
It's too bad it died.
Your kids must love it that you did that for them. We just had a boy
which spurred me on to finish Franklin the Turtle demo. Of coarse, he
won't be interested in it for a few more years so I guess I have lot's of
time to polish it up.
Have you tried Helm, CanDo or one of those other development packages?

Nope, never got anything that I had to pay more than $10 for. Errr…
actually, no doubt in part because I bought UltraCard for about $50 at the WOC
just after it first came out… and just before I got a free magazine… which
had a review of it saying you need at least 2 Meg of ram, which I didn't have
at the time. It works twice as good now with 3Meg – it lasts twice as long
before crashing! But I still have a hard time figuring out how to do anything.
AV is a lot easier to figure out. Doesn't have configurable links to editors
though like UC (tell it you have Dpaint and EMACS or whatever, and you can load
and edit at will. If it all hung together right, it would have been fine
likely. Oh well. Oh, and I got GoldDisk's thing from the same magazine. I
tried to buy a manual from them here, but no deal. Without ARexx, Hyperbook
was useless too. The moral of the story boys and girls is to shop around GOOD
before you decide, and BUY the program for the manual – which had BETTER be
good.

I've bought a lot of good software and a fair bit of bad s/w.
Unfortunately, you can't always go buy what people suggest. For example,
I much prefer Professional Page over PageStream 2.2 (3.0 should be
different) but PgS seems to have a greater following. People say that PP
is buggy but I have found PgS to be just as buggy.
UltraCard, ooh that's ancient, isn't it? It was circa 1990 or so, huh?
HyperBook was acceptable without ARexx (IMHO). In fact, I still like it
quite a bit although it is a tad slow. I've worked with more expensive PC
programs that don't come near HB capabilities (which is pretty sad.)
Have you tried Scala? (I guess not if $10 is your limit <BG>)

Oh, and congrats on the boy. We just had a boy (on only our 3rd try! 🙂
I'm half dreading seeing what the differences will be. Our oldest 3.9 year-old
girl is such a handful (and everyone comments on WELL behaved they are!!??)…

Why, thank you. We are very happy with him (accept at 4 in the morning).
He has already helped me answer my EMail (it's hard to type with one hand
with a baby on your lap.)

Our first had colic for a good year and a half or more. Every night 1-2+ A.M.
Groan. The latest is already (usually) sleeping through the night. And just
now he can roll more than once. Eek! No more lying him on the bed!
I kind of like ProPage too, but it got so slow with version 3. Did I tell you
G.D. told me 3.1 has stopped shipping 'cause of the bugs. And of course, no
more Ami development at all.
Scala? Why yes, I have a magazine version of that one TOO! Either they're too
hard to figure out (hm… no, Scala had a disk error I think, and I ain't
calling England!) with full docs, or something else like that. Although HB did
seem pretty good, a lot like Ultracard in some ways. But AmigaVision I really
like – bit more like REAL programming I guess.

P.S. sorry I didn't get back to you (I don't think I did anyway) I've only got
3M ram and <1Meg free on my hard drive 🙂 But maybe SOME day…
