diamondscans I've used and sold have scan rate of 15 to 36khz, vertical refresh
of 45 to 90hz, 13inch viewable area (14 inch tube). I had some used,
refurbished ones but they got snapped up fast and are gone. Similar monitors
sell new for about $529. The Diamondscan also has a terrific feature – a real
NTSC video input on top of the RGB multisync input! If interested in obtaining
a monitor, please email me to get more info, specifics on models and
availability, etc. Thanks for the interest, I do use two diamondscans on my own
systems and I hear there may be other newer models available as well. I like
'em because they handle all AGA and work with my Retina as well.

You seem to know your monitors, wonder if you wouldn't mind answering
a question?
I recently purchased a used Mitsubishi AUM 1381A, the picture is good but the
display has an odd moire pattern. If you've ever seen a color monitor with the
wrong type of anti-glare (mono) screen in front of the picture tube you know
the pattern I'm talking about.
This was a known problem when I purchased the monitor, I got it cheap enough
that I won't feel too bad if I have to invest some money to get it working
right.
I keep wondering if this monitor wasn't set up for mono/TTL use and has some
kind of a built in anti-glare device.

Often electrical interference will cause the same moire patterns as you see
with optical interference. It's easy to check out – move cables, change
computers, feed NTSC straight in.

Thanks for the reply. It's not cable related, the pattern is still there when
running ntsc video via the composite input.
I'm beginning to think it's an internal alignment problem. The pattern is a
mirror image of itself much like the Rorschach ink blot tests The pattern is
very prominent when the focus is sharp and gradually subsides when the focus is
reduced.
If you were to take a fine screen mesh and look through it at a color monitor
a similar pattern would be visible.
I'll probably take it in, I wanted to avoid paying a hefty price for something
I could have done myself, OTOH this monitor is too nice to be mucking around
with.

Mitsubishi has a repair service in Norwood, Georgia. But it's not cheap.
FWIW Mitsubishi in Los Angeles area charges a flat $150 for overhaul or
whatever short of a new CRT. I got talked into it by the maker of the flicker
***** board. Turned out it was their board all along although Mitsu. found some
minor anomolies.

from what I understand, Mitsubishi moved all repair operations to their
Norcross, Georgia facility. Please verify if you can really get repairs done
in LA as, when I need to do them, it will save me ship costs to GA and back!

I don't know what causes that 'moire' but I've seen it even on new 1381A's
(Diamondscans). I use 'em and I've sold many, new and used. I like 'em and
don't notice the 'moire', but then I don't notice interlace flicker either
after looking at it for years.
