#Can A4000 play CD32?????

Mike..anybody who says Labyrinth Of Time is nothing more than a pretty
slideshow hasn't really played the game or is not intellegent enough to fiqure
out how to solve any of the puzzles. I'm a Amiga dealer and Labyrinth is the
best selling Amiga CD title so far, and everybody who bought it is happy the
got it.
Liberation CD32 does play on a A1200, you just need to copy the program
"nopenwb" from the c: directory on the CD to your C: directory on your
harddisk. Then execute the startup-sequence on the Liberation CD.
I'm going to try some others next week. Most will likely play on a A4000 if
they work on a A1200 unless the game doesn't like 040's.

Thanks very much for your input. I'd really like to be able to play some
game CDs on my 1200. I haven't played Lab of Time. I was just relating
what any number of Brit mags had to say about it. I tried running the demo
off of the #3 Amiga User CD but had no luck. The pictures that I loaded
looked good though. It would be nice if they made those CDs usable to
regular CD owners like they do for the CDTV.
Does Lab of Time run OK on a regular CD then? Does Liberation need to
actually boot off of the CD? I use the SCSI+ interface and it does not
allow booting off of the CD reader.
Please let us all know what other CDs that you find to work on AGA
machines. I'd have to think that there are more CD owners than CD32 owners
right now. I'm using a 1200 w/'030 accelerator. I don't know if that makes
any difference or not.

The Brit Mags are a little too critical of many Amiga CD32 games, they seem to
like platform games the best, any slower moving stratagy/adventure games are
always rated lower.
From my experience with Labyrinth Of Time, it is very compatible with any Amiga
system with a CD-ROM, as long as you have 1 MEG CHIP and some fast RAM. It is
030 and 040 compatible.
Liberation doesn't need to boot of the CD on the A1200, all you have to do is
copy the file "nopenwb" from the C: directory on the CD to the C: directory on
your hard drive and then execute the startup-sequence on the Liberation CD. I
tried Liberation on an 030 accellerated A1200 and it works fine.

No joke there. I've seen reviews that gave Amiga games 90%, but would
lower the rating to 79% for the CD version just because they didn't add
*MORE* to the game (same game, different media).
Also, they would give the earlier ECS/OCS version 90%, but lower the
rating for the AGA version becauce they didn't offer more than improved
graphics.

Thanks for the message, especially the assurance about Liberation working
with an '030 1200. That's what I have as well and Liberation should be
delivered any day now. Do you know of any other CD32 discs that will work
on a CD ROM equipped AGA machine beside the two you mentioned ?

I just got a pile of CD32 titles in the other day and I found a few that work
on the A1200.

Cool! Keep up the good work. Are you saying that that is all of the games
from the pile that worked, or that is all you got a chance to test? Would
you mind listing the ones that don't work from your sample? I got
Liberation today along with a Competition Pro Super CD32 controller. The
controller makes all the difference in Liberation IMHO. I ordered it from
Sideline Software if anyone lurking is looking for a controller source.

How is it different?? I just got Microcosm and chaos engine from CEI
and am looking to getting atleast one more controller. If you see a
review(indepth) of sx-1, or what ever it's called let me know where to

Coupon offer, but it is going out third class so depending on where you
live it could take a while. Also your last name is close to mine and
probably went out on the same group. Don't panic until friday if you
haven't got it yet, 3rd class is really weird, a parcel can sit for so
many days at each PO and hit as many as it takes, last I knew.

Just as an update. After I left the last reply, I went back to the Amiga
User CD #3 to try to get the Lab of Time demo to run again and suceeded. I
copied the files I didn't already have off of the Lab C directory onto my
HD. Then I assigned LAB: to the demo directory. Next I copied the
startup-sequence file off of the CD into the RAM: drive and edited it to
take out the line referring to the bookit program. This was what was
giving me problems. It kept coming back and saying that bookit was for
CDTV only. After executing the startup-sequence from RAM: the demo ran
fine. I got lost in the maze but the graphics and sound are beautiful.
I'll have to try some of the other ones next.<g> BTW, the Pinball
Fantasies demo runs fine on the same disk. I would think that any programs
that came out on floppy for the 1200 then were put on CD would work OK.

I ran the LAB demo right of the Amiga USer CD. All we need is some AKIKO
emulation software and we can run other CD32 disks on a A1200. The europeans
have it now.

The other thing we need is for the companies producing the CD32 discs to
realize that they are throwing away a fairly hefty market share by not
making their discs run easily on regular CD ROM equipped machines.

True..there's enough room on a CD for them to put an ECS and AGA version of the
game. As a dealer I know CD-ROM is really popular now on the Amiga There's a
lot of CD-ROM drives being sold and I know I've sold a bunch.
