#Using PAR on network
3 messages in this thread
Has anybody put an Amiga with a PAR on a network with a Mac or PC and
rendered the Mac/PC animation using the Amiga based PAR?
I would like to be able to use the PAR with all platforms and am wondering
if I should get the Amiga or the PC version.
If you have done this, which platform, what software and what type of network
(physical and protocol).
Do you have to put a conversion program in the loop on the PAR platform, or
can images be directly used by the PAR?
Thanks for all input and thoughts.. Brian
Brian,
I'd say go with the Amiga version of the PAR. The cost and features will
be about the same, but PC's don't multitask well and the Amiga does. The
current version of the software supports IFF, SGI, and Targa. Targa will
work for most PC stuff, but for MAC stuff you may have to convert the
images. For PC anims you can write the targa images directly to the PAR
and it will build an anim out of them.
For MAC images I'd do it this way:
Run Adpro, Procontrol, and the PAR software on the Amiga. Have Procontrol
monitor a directory on the Amigas hard drive. Have the Mac save images to
that directory. As each frame is written Procontrol will run it through
AdPro, do any image processing required, and save it to the PAR. (Isn't
multitasking great? Don't you wish PC's could?) ;^) Of course if your
Mac renderer can save IFF's or Targa's you can cut AdPro/Procontrol out of
the loop and save direct to the PAR.
This assumes you have the MAC, Amiga, and PC all connected with ethernet
cards. For details on networks you'll have to ask someone else.

Thanks for info, Jeff. Your advice to stick with the Amiga sounds good. I've
never worked on a PC I didn't hate, anyway!
