#NT INFO
19 messages in this thread
Several people have expressed an interest in knowing where they could obtain
specific information regarding NT so I thought I'd pass along some pertinent
information.
For Hardware Compatibility issues there is one file in 3 different formats:
HCL35W.EXE which is in WinWord format. HCL35H.EXE which is formatted to
Winhelp, so that it can be used within NT. HCL35T.TXT which is in standard
ASCII format.
For the latest on driver updates (last 30 days) the file is called,
WINNT.TXT
The Frequently Asked Questions file is called,
NTFAQ.EXE
They can all be found in the GO WINNT Forum, Library 1.
Might be a good time to check these out just in case you have any doubts about
some particular piece of hardware. If you do it now you'll have a chance to
resolve any future potetial problems now, so that hopefully it'll be smooth
sailing once R5 is available. Your input is needed; you all can help make that
transition successful by looking into your particular needs as soon as
possible. Mostly, I think its covered, like Diamond and Sound Blaster etc. all
have drivers. All the Adaptec SCSI's but there are some tech notes on them as
well… so its worth checking into, especially if you're planning on buying
more hardware in the near future.

Thought I'd include my $.02 worth in.
We are currently using a beta version of NT 3.51 which includes several
features slated for release with Windows95. The "final" next release
of NT is supposed to include all the features of '95 plus some.

Thanks Lee that was my understanding also… and its a relief. <g>

John
John,
I have never used\seen Windows 95. Can you tell me what is so good about it's
UI?

Mark, I'm sorry, there must be some confusion. I've been talking about NT not
Win 95. Like you, I haven't seen it either, and I'm hoping I won't have to get
it, as the next release of NT is supposed to be able to run Win 95 apps. If you
have questions about NT, I'd be glad to answer those if I can.

Yes, but I belive you did mention that you are looking forward to Win95's GUI
in the next version of NT.

Wasn't me, as far as I know the GUI won't be included in NT. I know Tim Krego
asked Lee Steel about it, and Lee's comment was a negative. Personally I was
kinda hoping it would be seamless. Keep it clean and simple, save the RAM for
more useful things. <G>

Not true, The win 95 Gui will be on NT, though not till Nt 3.52,
maybe \sept\ OCT NT 3,51- June- has win 95 dll's and helpsystem
support built in , and many win 95 programs work in it. 3.52 will be
the base system for Cairo, which will be a series of Object oriented
add ons. I have seen several beta Nt systems running win 95 gui, and
it is NICE!! This is pretty much common knowledge now, as reported
by several mags as well. hope the info helps
Thanks for the info, it may be common knowledge now but as of two
weeks ago it wasn't. With all the excitement about the Win95 GUI, I
hope it performs as well as it looks. <g>
hi John,
I agree, as the win 95 gui is beautiful, but Nt is more robust.
By the way, I enjoy your first Anigrafix cd-rom accents, vol 1
do you guys have any others now
best,
Cameron

Actually that's Robert Stein and that's AniGraF/X. We actually had a talk about
the possibility for confusion and decided that since we really didn't work on
the same kinds of things that it wouldn't be a problem. I don't think there's
another CD available. I too have Vol 1 and its way better than most. I think
Robert is doing other things these days… not sure what however.

Cameron,

What improvements does the Win 95 GUI have over Windows NT 3.5 GUI?
Mark
PMJI. but. …

Lots!. I just got Win95 running on my computer and I never want to go back.
Since Microsoft is in no rush to update NT to work like Win95, it's going to be
a bummer to have to run NT when software demands it. BTW, the next version of
NT, which is
scheduled to run like Win95 is code named "Cairo".
The improvements in Win95 are too many to get into here. But try to miagin what
would happened if you took the best of the Mac operating system, got rid of the
worst of the old DOS/Windoze junk, and created a new OS. That's what Win95 is
like. It's a pleasure to use.
actually, the win 95 desktop for Nt should be release in about 2 months
around the same time as win 95.
Cairo is already in early beta testing, and is not a new os, but rather a
series of patches and upgrades for nt 3.52 base system.
nt 3.51 already has some early Cairo features, and enhanced dll\link support
for win 95 and cairo.
hope the info helps

Hi Mark,
we the beta gui for Nt has win 95 interface, and much better object orientated
support, including multimedia, preview documents,
file structures, right clicking anywhere etc.
now Nt is a monster engine with a beautiful face.

Cameron,
Thanks for the info. Is the 3.51 upgrade available yet? Where can I buy it?
Mark
We have been running 3ds since ver 1.0 along with numerous windows
paint/graphics packages and have finally gotten tired of
GPF errors in windows. We would like to switch to Windows NT but
have some concerns about running 3ds ver 4 until the NT version is released.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated

I didn't think 3.51 had the Win95 GUI. Does the 3.51 you have use the Win95 GUI
or Windows 3.x GUI?
