Animator Stud., NO PLAY!

We just got our copy of Animator Studio, and after installation, we can't make
anything play!
The sample AVI files load OK, show up as thumbnails, and the playback window
shows the selected frame. Then we try to play.
The playback window title-bar shows the filename, then changes to the frame
number, then stops, showing the filename again. Even though the program sees
the total file, playback is as though the program thinks the file is only one
frame long.
HELP!

anytime we try to help people here, we need information about the kind of
system you're installing on, J. for example, what type of OS are you running it
on? Windows 3.1? Windows for Worgroups 3.11? Windows NT? Win95? what kind of
system are you running it on? 386? 486? Pentium? how much RAM do you have? how
much FREE harddisk space do you have? how big is your swap file? these are the
basics. also, have you tried installing it on another Windows-loaded system to
see if it works there?

I just spent an entire month dealing with this problem. Animator Studio will do
everything else, except it wont play anything. When I hit the play button, all
it does is sais "playing" for about a half a second and then stops.
I finally fixed the problem by doing a search in File Manager and deleting
anything that had to do with AVI or MCI (make sure you have backups of any
other programs that deal with video or animation in case you delete a ton of
stuff you weren't supposed to). I then reinstalled Animator Studio and it
finally worked!!! I dont't know if this was the problem, but I had duplicate
drivers (and maybe dll's;anyway it was stuff with crazy extensions) in both my
windows directory and my system directory, and probably a few other places.
Anyway, I'm sure any technical support person would brown out if they saw
this answer, but it worked for me when nobody could get my system running.

<fainting> <ggg> yeah, we've had a number of cases where we had different
versions of DLLs and previous driver installation conflicts. i'm glad you got
it working, but whenever things make absolutely no sense, i usually start with
a fresh install of Windows and the program. if it works then, i start
suspecting all differences since fresh install/OS and fresh install/app.

Sounds like AAS is trying to create an MCI window to play the video and
failing.
Typically this only happens with many open videos, each played at least
once, each requiring resources to do so.
If you've got other programs running, try closing them.
Otherwise, try freeing up low DOS memory by removing things
from config.sys and autoexec.bat.
