Help! We're trying to write CD-ROMS on Philips CDD 521 CD recorder, using
Gearxpress for Windows. The CD recorder works fine when attached to a Mac, but
when trying to write CDs from a PC everything fails. The PC is equipped with to
SCSI adapters. When connected to an SCSI adapter that addresses no other SCSI
device the SCSI testing software correctly detects the CD writer as being
attached, but Gearxpress won't find it. When connected to the starting up SCSI
host adapter (that is, the one the hard disk is connected to) we're able to
start a writing process but writing after a couple of seconds aborts with a
fatal disk error reported by DOS itself. In either case when checking out the
CD it appears to contain data but no data can be accessed from the file finder.
Any clue to what might help?

What you are describing sounds to me like a SCSI device ID conflict. What kind
of SCSI adapter are you using, and what software drivers? Adaptec has
something called EZSCSI that takes a lot of the guesswork out of configuring
your SCSI chain.

Hi Thomas,
When you have two SCSI host adapters, you must specify which on eyou are using.
This can be done
by editing the 'HostAdapterNumber' entry in the cd-recording section of the
gear.ini file. This is the unique number ASPI gives your host adapter. Default
is 1. Change it to 2 or 0 and try again. You should the see the recorder when
attatched to the empty SCSI bus.
Your proble with the other adapter does indeed seem to be a SCSI ID conflict.
Kathy gave you some good tips on how to fix this.

thanks for your informations! We decided to write CDs from the computer that
contains two SCSI adapters. What Paul said finally worked out: I changed the
entry in the gear.ini file and GearXPress recognised the CD unit.
