I am running 3ds r4 and yesterday I started getting a hardware lock error. It occurs about every 30 minutes, usually while working in the 3d editor or keyframer. I get a dialogue box that says "Hardware lock missing, program will terminate. Do you wish to save a project file?", then I get kicked out after saving my project. I checked the dongle and it is in place. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks Mitch Gates

Claus: I purchased 3D Studio at a computer flee market , got it installed When I started it I recieved the error "sentinelPro not installed" and it exited. I checked the forum and have now learned that I needed a hardware lock. Where can these be purchased and/or am I out the money spent ? Herb

Herb, I'm afraid you are out of luck! 3DS needs the hardware lock plugged into the parallel port to run. Period!! How much did you pay for it and where are you located, if I might ask? Any chance of getting the money back? TedB -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0007MGHHGB8A256

Herbert: >> I purchased 3D Studio at a computer flee market, got it installed >> When I started it I received the error "sentinelPro not installed" I guess that's the correct spelling of "flea market" in your case, they probably took your money and flew! :^) Greg Pyros

As far as I know, the only way to get a Sentinel is to buy one from Autodesk and they will charge you full price($2,995). You should try to get your money back!

Mitch, Download HWLOCK.TXT from the libraries, it talks about troubleshooting hardware locks. -b

Brian I read that text file when I first started having problems. It seems to address situations where the lock wont work from the start, and won't even let you run 3DS. I have been running 3DS for a year now with no problems. This started up out of the blue. I will try installing it on another system to see if it happens there too. Thanks Mitch

<<This started up out of the blue. I will try installing it on another system to see if it happens there too.>> If you think that the hardware lock itself is starting to go bad, you can get that replaced. Talk to your dealer and see if they will give you another lock to test on your system. If you get the exact same behavior from their lock as well, then you know it is something in the system. If their lock works fine, then you know you just have to replace your current hardware lock, and the dealer will help you do that. -Brian
