I've been having problems with the Vapor IPAS. I create an emmitter with the AXPBOX utility, and slightly modify the settings, using special mapping, 100 particles at about .25. Everything else is close to default. It works fine until I copy the emitter cube. When rendering two mirrored objects, the newly created one does not follow the object settings. I've tried mirroring, copy/rotate, and building from scratch w/ the AXPBOX util. One other thing… The two emitter cubes overlap each other. The emitters however do not fall in the common space. Any suggestions? Thanks. Darrin Sabin Scottsdale, AZ. If you need reg. info, I just bought the Disk from Jim Murphy.

Also… Gary & Co. How can I repeat key frames for objects using vapor? Am I correct in assuming that to get an object to repeatedly generate smoke in slow steady bursts, I need to copy the object as many times as I need bursts, and then set each start & end frame variables for each clone? Thanks again. Darrin Sabin

You're basically correct… you'll need a seperate axpbox for each burst, but you can save the .prm file from the first one and load it into each (and then modify the time values accordingly). That'll save you from having to copy all the other params by hand. – G

Instead of copying the emitter cube, make a new one from scratch. That ought to do it for ya. – G

Thanks Gary, I'll give it a try. Darrin

If you can afford to turn off special mapping, then you could animate it with a flic texture map. I 've been doing that but I wish I could define a flic to be used as a "special map" (playing for only the last [flic frames #] frames of the particle system), – Ron

Ooops! I realized the smoke will appear improperly each "puff". Oh well. – Ron

I've found that when trying to manipulate the AXP-box for VAPOR or FLAME (ie copy, scale, etc), the best way to do it is to go into the keyframer and create a dummy. Link the AXP-box to the dummy. Do whatever you want TO the dummy (move, scale, etc), and then make a SNAPSHOT of the AXP-box. I had a problem trying to use the TORCH2 example file — I just needed to scale it down some — nothing else (it was for a still, so the included animation it was set up with made no difference to me. I tried EVERYTHING, and as long as I used the SPECIAL mapping button and material I had NO luck — until I tried this dummy-method. Dave
