#Material Morph Hates Me

I'm trying to morph an opaque material to a transparent one. The two objects
are identical otherwise (copies of eachother actually). At the peak of the
morph, I get transparent bands of material in an otherwise opaque object.
Any suggestions. I've tried a bunch of stuff, but basically did everything I
found in the manual. I'm sort of new to 3ds so if you can help me, speak
english.

Is the transparent morph target hidden? What do you mean by the "peak" of the
morph? Also, set the morph key's continuity to 0 (in Key Info) to avoid any
overshoot that may be occuring.

In the key framer, yes. In the 3d editor, no.

Sorry, that was unclear. The effect is aparent throughout the morph, it is
most obvious when the material is supposed to be completely transparent.
The object was created in Acad R13 and has a fairly fine mesh. The object is
essentially a piece of square tubing with a hole punched in the side. The band
of transparent occurs below the hole, wher the triangles of the mesh meet the
hole.
Even though the same mesh occurs above the hole, that area remains opaque.
I don't know if this has any bearing, but, I gave up on the morph and tried to
animate the thing with out the morph. My column rendered as matt black instead
of glossy blue in the animation even though the preview and any single rendered
frame shows the correct material.
Any thoughts??

I've had the same problem. The object that I morph shows bands on the
material. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. I've also had problems with
the objects showing up as matte black instead of their assigned materials when
I try to render the animation. It's fine when I render a single frame. I've
also had problems with the lighting. On the first frame of the animation, the
lighting is fine. Then throughout the animation the lighting slowly goes
darker, sort of like fading to black.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

I haven't gotten any answers here yet, nor have any of the things I've played
with changed anything, but I'll let you know if I ever figure it out.

Do you have any other keyframes for the lights other than at frame 0? Check
Track Info to see if you've created any other keyframes for those lights in
your animation.

Does your transparent material have any shininess? You could be seeing some
specular highlights.

The bands of material differences are very disinct. The object is a square
column with radiused corners and a hole punched in the side. The bands start
and stop crisply at mesh lines. Probably a useful effect for some situations,
but not what I need.

If you have been doing booleans, the smoothing groups could be invalid. There
could also be subtle differences in the orientation of the faces that could
pick up difference highlights if the material has shininess.

The object was created in AcadR13. The smoothing groups appear to be valid, at
least they follow what I would have done if I were smoothing it. The
differences between transparent areas and opaque areas are very sharp and occur
on flat surfaces where a highlight would be uniform.
I may try recreating the object and bringing it in again.

Try this for fun. Assign both objects a 100 % shininess map using a pure black
.TGA image. If that works, play with that idea until you get the transition
you want.
