Does anybody know whether 3DS works from the DOS session under NT or not? I am using ACAD R13 on NT, and will be perfect if I can just run 3DS on NT. Thanks Luka Kito 73664,1131

Nope, 3ds will not run under NT. The good news is that 3ds R5 not only will run under NT, but will require NT (or maybe Win95, or maybe not). LAM

"when are they planning to release 3DS R5?" I don't think there's been an announcement – but I think I saw a message here which indicated end of year/beginning of next time frame. We usually announce the specifics at SIGGRAPH (August), so don't take my guess as gospel.

We are running 3ds ver. 4 and have been very frustrated with windows GPF on our windows paint/graphics packages and wish to switch to windows NT… have you had any luck in answers back concerning running 3ds under NT… any insite would be appreciated… Jack — Training Media Services — 74140,3210

David, 3D Studio doesn't run under Windows NT…period. You may want to try OS/2 Warp; it has been very useful for us and 3D Studio. Are you trying to run 3D Studio through windows with the pharlap.386 file? If so, then don't! It really causes problems…

Brad: I think you missed a thread and a library file which describe exactly what one can do to get 3DS R4 to run under NT. To say that "3D Studio doesn't run under Windows NT…period" is not true but I will grant you that it does not perform optimally under NT (at least according to the file). Bob

Bob, If someone figured it out, then I am truly impressed; but I doubt it works well enough to switch to it. Thanks.

>>If someone figured it out, then I am truly impressed; but I doubt it works well enough to switch to it.<< I tried running 3DS4 under NT 3.51 using the file in the library. My system is a Dell XPS100 w/32MB RAM. It worked but isn't useable, a simple object took 10 minutes to load under NT. You won't be able to get any work done. It isn't even useful for test renders either, its quicker to exit NT and boot DOS.

Thanks for the insite in to NT and 3ds,,, I'm going to try a flexi-boot setup between dos and NT and see if that will work,, it will be somewhat of a pain but the performance of NT for our graphics packages may make it worth while
