To The Folks Who Developed It..
I realized right away when I first tried to run it that I had Windows in the
wrong color resolution. So I set the ATI controls to 256 color, per
instructions, & it looked right for a change.
However, even with a quad CD drive it really grinds to a halt when shifting
gears, so to speak; also, the palette flashes annoyingly when changing to a new
scene..
Is there anything else I should be setting here?
(I can tell you this is REALLY selling me on the efficacy of the CD demo
concept… <g>)
(I've also got some beachfront property in Nebraska, if you'd like to…)

John – Sorry to hear you are having problems with the Animator Studio CD demo.
If you're ATI card is set up to enable hot key switching of video modes, turn
in OFF. That feature really causes all sorts of problems with 8 bit programs.
Once turned off, the demo shoule run fine in both 8 and 24 bit modes.
Let me know if you have any other problems and perhaps you can send me some
info on the beachfront property you are selling <g>.

bit programs.<< Do you mean the "WinSwitch" dialog box, perhaps? That's the
only thing I could find that looks like a "hot key" feature in the ATI world.
If that's what you meant, it's been in the off state all along.
In all fairness I have to assume that it's probably not all your guys fault
that this demo seems like a hilarious joke in some places. I mean, it actually
says (in a very seductive female voice) "Tap into True Color.." & then turns
black & white for a number of seconds. You _couldn't_ have meant THAT to
happen, could you..?
That's not all. Shortly after the above-mentioned, it crashes, with one of
those (groan) "Application Error.. MMTASK caused a General Protection Fault in
module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:1FA9.. blah, blah.. Push the ol' reset button
(sigh). I havn't been able to get the thing to go any further.
It seems like a very well-designed presentation behind all that, though. I
especially like the promise that I'll actually be able to put my music &
animations together for a change (what a long rocky ride that's been!). Look,
I know these CD-ROM's in general have been a real crock for some folks, & the
ATI guys are taking it on the chin these days with the publicity about their
hard-to-figure-out (and very powerful) video cards. I'm in the demo disk
business myself, too.. & I find that if somebody has a problem getting it to
work, there's just about nothing to be done to justify it in their eyes, no
matter who or what's fault it was. The "knee-jerk scorn syndrome" from
millions of users who've "seen it all.."
Oh, & that's _ocean-front_ property in Nebraska BTW. Very pleasant. <g>
