I know its not good form but what part of the world are you from, where they
say "yo" and "happy boy"? Brooklyn maybe…?, but then you have a CIS #
starting at 100_ ?
This is off the subject of course but I'm not sure what the other part was that
you were having difficulty with…

Actually John, I'm from Auckland, New Zealand. You can blame a combination of
Doonesbury and US sit-coms for "Yo", and my Dad for "Happy boy"!
The other part was where I create, say, a Gsphere, apply say, a mapped texture,
maybe rotate it, move it, copy it a few times, and suddenly boomfo (don't look
it up, it's my own expression), bad craziness. Like the vertices have been
pulled around, extending through other objects. This was happening to stuff
pulled in from the lofter also, but I realised I was tweening stuff I didn't
have to, and when I stopped doing that, all was well.
I dunno. Any thoughts?

At the risk of being personal, I find your expressions quite charming. 🙂 I
especially like "boomfo", that's a perfect technical discription. (At least for
me… 🙂 "bad craziness" is pretty good too… I'd say that was Cajun Voodoo,
if you were down Louisianna way…
I've never experienced what you've described in terms of vertices popping
through the sides of other objects, and I've only heard about it in cases where
the software got corrupted somehow.
But I guess if you were "tweening stuff" you didn't have to then "no worries"
right? So what are you working on or are you just exploring 3DS and the
possibilities?
So I guess you guys/gals are pretty excited about winning the Cup? It was a
sweet victory no doubt. Your guys won it from the San Diego Yacht club, which
is pretty near where I live, about 15 mins away. Your guys deserved to win it,
Dennis did not do so well for us…. again! 🙁

I have seen Laurie's boomfo. Never new what it was called. <BG>
It was caused here by corrupted software. I reinstalled the 3DS.exe file and
started the project file over. It was corrupted too. The boomfo vertice will
stretch into infinity it seems. After I reinstalled the exe it went away and I
never saw it again on my system.
3DS Lexicon…
Had to really dig through the archives for this one, as it was buried in some
undocumented text in the Yost Files (soon to be released in paperback) as the
unofficial guide to the 3DS Development Years…
Boomfo : boom_fo … Stray vertices extruding through polygonal shapes-
caused by corrupted 3DS.EXE file… only known cure, reinstallation
of original 3DS.EXE file.
(doc 33154… Yost note. "Don't look up or roll you eyes… cause this is
a real phenomena… and it doesn't just come from working long hours… " (ad
note: Jonas R. Should original exe file become corrupted contact dealer for new
copy…)
So there it is Don and I can't think of a more apt description. 🙂

Oh well. "Needs must, when the devil vomits in your kettle", as my father used
to say, before the medication kicked in. I get the message gentlemen – I had
better sally forth (running _not_ walking) to the place of 3D Studio's stout
yeomen here in Auckland and demand a new set of disks.
God, if I didn't have a day job, I could play with this program at more
civilised hours and – who knows? – maybe even get to bed before 5am from time
to time.
Oh well, I'm pleased we now have a name for this problem anyway.

If you should have the luxury of attending SIGGRAPH, you'll immediately notice
that most animators have an unusual white cast to their complexion — caused by
a lack of exposure to sunlight. (seriously!)

Gosh, I bet we make an attractive group photo – like you could probably switch
the signs from "Siggraph" to "Chaemotherapy survivors" and no one looking at
the photo would blink!

Alas, no. Truth be known, I'm just about at the frustrating stage where I've
stopped planning trips. I work for myself, and everytime I try to plan one,
something comes up a week before I go, and I have to cancel. My travel agent
loves me, as I have to forfeit my deposit. It's gotten to the stage that I put
a proviso on my booking that, if I cancel, my travel agent has to go to a pub,
phone me and tell me where she is, and we spend my deposit over the bar.
I'm gonna try once more – I plan to head to Hawaii [Maui] in November with a
couple business associates for two weeks. Anyone know what the weathers like
then?
So if you're there at that time, just ask if anyone's seen an escapee from a
chaemotherapy clinic swanning around the beaches and nightclubs. And you'll
have found me.

What a novel idea! I do too. <g> And its a pain, though it definitely has its
compensations… yes I know about planning things and not being able to follow
through… one of my greater sins…
The Hawaii part sounds nice, I was there a little over a year ago I think.
November… no can't say I've been there that late in the year. I don't think
I'll be looking for anything that has escaped though… too many people on the
run, ya know…? However it would be most interesting to meet you, as we seem
to have quite a bit in common… course everytime I think that, I find out I'm
totally wrong <g>… doesn't seem to be my destiny anyway… mine is as an
artist, which pretty much precludes everything else anyway… so if wishes were
fishes… I guess I'd wish to be a Dolphin in a national reserve area with
plenty of tuna… imagine me with my hawaiian shirt and Raybans cruising
backwards taking in the sun… <g>

Someone Kindly forwarded my address to the Aloha net – God, what an exotic node
_that_ sounds like! Folk talking about – I dunno, virtual surfing, or jetski
simulators or suchlike. He's going to give me the good oil on Hawaii's clime.
Hopefully, it's all good news. NZ's summer is just starting to kick off here at
that time, and it'd be just my luck to survive the wet winter we've hadhere,
then fly out and suffer through someone else's. Aaah, what the hell. I get
pretty bloodyminded in situations like that,so even if Hawaii's first snowstorm
strikes, I' gonna be sitting in that damned deck chair!

Sunlight? What's that? Too bad there are all those regulations on monitors.
