#Fix for Stealth 64 Video

I got good news for all of you Diamond Stealth 64 Video users! Vibrant has
written a fix for using AutoCAD with the "Stealth 64 Video" video card. The
fix also works with 3D Studio (at least for me). To get the fix, go on the
Vibrant BBS 512-918-3411 and download the file stlbios.exe. The fix needs to
be run once after your computer is on. It worked for me!
This file will not work for anyone having problems with the older S3-964 based
"Stealth 64". It only works with the newer S3-968 based "Stealth 64 Video"

Yea, I've heard that if you try to run it when your computer is off it doesn't
do much except leave that black screen exactly as it found it! :^)

So that's my problem… Gee I was ready to return the graphics card. Silly
me. <g>
I guess I missed that typo, what I meant to say was: The fix needs to be run
only once. Not every time you start 3DS.

What you really meant to say was "the fix needs to be run once every time the
computer gets turned on, preferably in the Autoexec.bat file". :^)
Seriously, thanks for finding out about this fix. I downloaded it yesterday
and it works great!

Is the problem everyone is having…
A: the card don't work
or
B: it does but, not in 16 mill'
My card worked fine BUT only in 256' which sucks for LenZFX etc…
The solution I found is to Use some other S3 drivers and lo and behold
"65' in 1000+" is now working! (This solution may have been already
found, but I just got the card!). As you now have the fix, could
you please download it to the Libary or E-mail it to me, I only have
Cserve access not Net!

You can get the card running in full 24-bit color by following the instructions
below. I also posted this as the start of this thread.

How do I know if I have an older or newer board?
I JUST bought my system w/ a Stealth 64 2MB and the stlbios.exe changes my
problem – but does NOT fix it.
when I test 800x600x24 bit I used to get a flat magenta colored screen, now I
get just the left side of the test pattern in a very LOW resolution. (as if it
extends beyond the right edge of the screen?

Run Microsoft's MSD, go into the Video section and look for the words VISION
964 or VISION 968. To be able to run stlbios.exe you need to have the S3-968
(same as VISION 968) based video card.

Does turning on or off the setting "Video Shadowing" in your CMOS help
any?
Many thanks to the kind soul who alerted all of us Stealth users to the fix…
seems to work for me too…..except for one thing.
I'm running the main display at 1280×1024 on a Nokia 447x….it works but now
certain parts of the screen seem, for lack of a more technical term, fuzzy.
It's as if the driver doesn't seem 100% on. I know it used to look very sharp
when I was using a Diamond Viper (one of the older ones).
I can live with it but just out of curiosity, is anyone else having the same
problem?

Hmm, I read in the readme for stlbios that it will not work with Triton chipset
based motherboards. Would your mb happen to have the Triton chipset?
