To me, traditional typography began with hot metal and includes
photo-electronic type, hand-set phototype and their associated
photo-mechanical processes (like paste-up and stat cameras).
Interesting, I was actually trying to determine what type of work you had done
in the field of typography. I probably phrased my question incorrectly.
I've never heard the term traditional used in that manner regarding typography,
I take it you were referring primarily to 20th century methods in general as
opposed to 16,17 and 18th century type shops in the Netherlands and Spain.
Have you designed type or just worked in prepress apps?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so pedantic… What I did was primarily
typesetting, proofreading and paste-up — towards the end, some pretty
high-quality stuff, including the Lexus print ads everyone was holding up as
examples of how good type could be.
The equipment and methods used up until Mac-based publishing took over are
referred to as "traditional" by the DTP crowd, at least around here.
Sorry, no design work to speak of… though I'm sure I could do better than
some of the new fonts I've seen.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do… disremember it! Evidently I'm
not the only former typographer who saw a better, brighter future in
3DS than in Quark and Pagemaker et al!
