"When was the 3DS r4c2 upgrade announced on the forum? " Adding to Jonas's reply, there is a change in the installation guide that tells you about the Authcode. If you install 3DS normally, you don't get a message requesting an authcode. It's not until 3DS actually starts that you get a message, "you have 30 days to get an authcode". The registration card has the number to call for an authcode.
