#No Floppies!

HELP!
If any of you hardware experts out there can help me, I would greatly
appreciate it!
Earlier this week I was working on my system during a thunderstorm. We never
lost power, but did have a surge or something as the lights went dim a couple
of times. It did not seem to affect my PC however. After finishing what I was
doing, I tried to format a floppy. That was when I found out that my floppy
drives no longer worked (one 3 1/2", one 5 1/4"). I checked the BIOS, and that
was still correct. I swapped the controller with a new card and still no luck.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I might try?

Power problems often manifest themselves in the computer's power supply, Bob.
Have you tried swapping the supply's pigtails around? it could be that the legs
of the supply powering your floppies got trashed.
If that didn't do it, I'd check the drives themselves, then the supply itself.

Thanks for the suggestions. I believe that it was the controller, after all. I
went ahead and took it to a local shop to see about trying a different
(working) floppy drive, and for some reason everything was working fine down
there. (of course!) I brought it back home and was having the same problems.
It turns out that two of the floppy disks I was using had become corrupted or
something when I tried to format them with the old controller still in. So,
whenever I tried to read from the drive (with one of those two floppies in it)
I would get an error message. DUH! Everything is fine for now.
