"Well they better come swift and fast"
YESSSS! I'll quote from the letter I was just given to post:
July, 1995
Dear Autodesk Animator Studio Customer:
Starting in mid July, Autodesk has a maintenance update to
Autodesk Animator Studio* known as "1c1".
The primary difference in Release 1c1 is the addition of
Microsoft Video for Windows 1.1e as well as support for
QuickTime for Windows 2.0. Autodesk Animator Studio R1c1
also includes numerous bug fixes and the addition of relative
macros. Beta testers of Release 1c1 have been very pleased
with the numerous improvements in performance as well.
Registered customers will automatically receive an update
to their software on CD-ROM directly from Autodesk. The
update CD-ROM is supplied at no charge. Please note there
is no "patch" available to update the software.
To receive your 1c1 update, please fax your product registration
card to Autodesk, Inc. (fax 415-507-6123). You may also mail your
registration card to the following address:
Autodesk, Inc.
ATTN: Software Registration
111 McInnis Parkway
San Rafael, CA 94903-9846
Finally, many customers have been inquiring about support for
pre-release Beta versions of Windows 95. Neither Release 1 or
the Release 1c1 update will run properly on Beta Windows 95.
However, when the commercially available final release version
of Windows 95 becomes available in late August 1995, Autodesk
will provide a special maintenance release of
Autodesk Animator Studio that runs on Windows 95.
This update will also be provided free of charge.
Thank you for using Autodesk Multimedia products.
Sincerely,
Autodesk Multimedia Product Management
Thanks, Nik.
This is a great news.

What is the situation in the UK? I just received my brand new copy of AAS
yesterday and it needs this update by the looks of it. Who do I contact?
Paul.
Hi Paul,
I am not working for Autodesk. Please ask Nik.

Hi Paul,
The UK does not have c1 at this point. They will honor the agreement that any
registered customer can get a free update through the RMA process. You will
have to do this through your dealer, who will then get the update through the
distributor.
The UK rep I spoke to said that he thought that the WIN95 release would be on
the heels of the c1 release in England, and that you might even wish to wait
for the WIN95 update. However, if you experience any problems that are fixed
in c1 of course you should update.
Good question, thanks for asking.
Nik
The UK seems to get a very bad deal from Autodesk. I've been complaining
about the price of the Animation Suport Libraries in your Software Dev. Kits
section. $25 in the USA, $330 in the UK! Seems like this is another
example. I really need the update, the number of GPFs with the 1.0 release
is totally unacceptable, as is the resource leakage. I certainly don't want
to wait for the Win95 version which will introduce even more problems.
Paul.

I"ve been following the thread on this – and it looks as though it's going to
get resolved. The UK was under the impression (never mind how!) that the kit
they had was different than ours. Thanks for pursuing this and helping things
get straightened out.

Make sure that you report the AAStudio problems you have as bugs. I know that
we have general confidence that the problems are being taken care of in c1, but
I'd hate to see you get c1 and discover that you still have some problems.
(There is a bug form up here call AASBUG.TXT to help.)
From your comment, c1 sounds like the way to go. From your "The UK seems to
get a very bad deal from Autodesk" comment, it sounds like you are primed for
more bad news. Just to let you know, the AAStudio c0 users who have registered
have not yet received their c1's yet, even here in the U.S. Hang in there! If
AAStudio is a program you can use, I think it's worth the wait.
Keep us informed, particularly if you have something you think either can be
reported as a bug (reported to us in a way that we can reproduce) or as a
resource issue or …?

Can you email me (privately) your AAStudio serial number, and address where we
can send you a USA AAStudio c1 update?
We're sorry you're feeling upset, and we hope we can help you by sending you c1
now.
Thanks.
