Dave, In the SuperBase PERSONAL manual, it states that when the PROFESSIONAL version came out you would be able to upgrade for the DIFFERENCE in the LIST PRICES. I believe this is still in effect. The fact is the $125 was LESS than the DIFFERENCE in list prices. ($299.95 – $149.45 = $150.00). Since their initial offer, the list price went UP – I don't know the official list price now, it is around $330 or $350. This would, of course, change the DIFFERENCE you'd have to pay NOW to upgrade. There have even been some people arguing (both HERE and on GEnie) that PRO should be FREE, since it is the "same" product (at lest to THEM). Lloyd

Anyone who thinks Personal and PRO are the same has no concept of the power of the programming language and reports in PRO. But then, there are folks who think most everything should be free. A while back, on Usenet, Leo Schwab (the famous screen hack/graphics guy) did a very clever thing on the reasons why people think all software should be free. Maybe I should hunt it up!

Betty, The article (?) sounds like a good idea, I'd just hate to hear (read) those same arguements soon afterwards…… Lloyd

Betty, Leo's thing on why software should be free… It didn't happen to be the "hacker ethic" that knowledge should not be "for sale", would it? Very common opinion among Unix heads I think.. (Larry, what say?) -Jack-

I'll try to find it when I have a bit of time (not today, please). Leo went back a piece into computer history to prove his point. But he is nearly always clever, and I wouldn't try to tell you myself. You just need his exact words.

'Nearly always clever'? or do you mean 'always nearly clever'? <smmiiille>

Well I don't think people are arguing that Personal and Pro are the same but it is reasonable to assume that Personal is some sort of subset of Pro….and having bought Personal why should you pay for the same features all over again by paying full or near full list price for Pro. A break on the pricing of an enhanced version is fairly well established principle in the industry.

Lloyd, I don't see that, but I'd like to. …Dave
