Do you mean SIGGRAPH? I felt there were two main "themes"; low-cost
workstations, and (to steal a phrase) connectivity. I saw a full-featured
self-contained workstation from a big name for less then $12K. I also saw
a Sun controlling the $100K Pixel Machine. I went to the show primarily to
keep in touch with people, rather than technology. I talked with a lot of
vendors, and most were willing to support me in getting the Amiga to
control or communicate with their hardware. Unfortunately, I have neither
the time nor resources to tackle everything (although I do have some
surprises). I hope that CBM or other developers have done the same. My
comments about the Amiga booth? After the NAB show, I posted ONE message
(in 'vendor) voice a moderate complaint. Because of that complaint, we
were not invited to this year's siggraph. My comment is thus "no
comment". —Mike
That's too bad. I would hope that comments from developers would be
encouraged I would have liked to see more of a cohesive presentation at the
Amiga booth; perhaps an hourly presentation and videotape. Too much of the
presentation was left to chance. If you happened by when someone was in
the midst of a quality demonstration, I think you would be impressed. If
you happened by when someone was just shooting the bull, you might not have
any idea what you were looking at. Also, I don't think half-inch demos are
acceptable at a scene like Siggraph. Commodore should at least have a
Umatic deck there. –Rick
Mike, do you know for a fact that you weren't invited because of that
complaint?
