Don,
Have you considered using the ARP copy command? With the environmental
variable _copyflags_ SET equal to _Q_ (for Quick) it will skip copying any file
that is in the source directory and identical to a file in the destination
directory (where identical means things like filename, size and date being the
same).

Sounds interesting, but perhaps a bit over my head. Checking out your
suggestion might be a good way for me to dig deeper into how this baby works.

Thanks re Quarterback. Apparently in DL 2 there's a demo version of sthg
called Expresscopy, which Steve Ahlstrom likes. Thought I'd give that a try
first.

In a back issue of Transactor (I forget what issue — sometime this year) I
had a comparative review of Quarterback, Saf-T-Net, and ExpressCopy. You might
want to give that a look. There was no clear winner. Each program had its own
strengths and weaknesses. When I DO back up to floppy, I personally use
ExpressCopy. That is seldom, however. I just don't have the patience to sit
around a couple of hours feeding disks to the machine. I've got an underused
50M HD, so I weekly back up my 20Ms to it. A LOT faster and can be done
unattended — actually, I usually back them up when I'm BS'ing it CO at night.

Thanks. I'll check into Transactor. The Expresscopy Demo seems pretty neat. I
understand your point about patience! BTW I just asked Jim Nangano again about
my continuing problem with Whap!–being kicked back to CLI when I select
'cancel' or 'quit' after reading or writing msgs. My Whap! assignment IS
correct (sthg else may not be!). Also when Whap! logs me on, there's no sign
that it's checking Easyplex for msgs.

Hopefully Jim will reply — in the meantime, delete your Tnnn file(s) and let
Whap reinitialize. Only thing I could think of offhand is not having Whap! in
whap:.
