#Hard Drive help

Hi, I have an A2000, and I need some help with a hard drive. I recently got
a Conner 342 AT/IDE drive, and the at controller card for it. I also got a
cbm A2090Auto controller. I was wondering if there is any way to use this
drive with my 2000. I know that the gvp accelerator has an AT controller,
so I know it is possible to use it. Can I buy and adapter or are there any
cheap at controller boards for the amy? I dont really have the cash to buy
the gvp so, I am hoping something will work. Thanks..

I think you're in a bit of a spot … I don't believe the 2090 works
with IDE drives, only "standard" MFM/ST506 interface drives. THe controller
on the GVP accellerator (assuming you mean the A3001) is an IDE controller.
So your drive would work with the GVP, but not the 2090. As an example,
Seagate's ST2xx series (not the 2xxR or 2xxN) would work with the 2090, as
would some other drives by other manufacturers (I just happen to know
Seagate pretty well …). I don't know of any IDE controllers for Amy, but
others might.

No…the A2090a doesn't support IDE drives, nor do I know of an
adapter for IDE <-> MFM or SCSI.
If it's a brand new drive, you might see if you can swap it for a
CP 340 which is SCSI or you might call Conner to see what it would cost to
change out the disk controller board to a SCSI board.

Ok, thanks for all your help, I think I've given up on this one. So I have
another question for you. I was looking at the Computer Shopper for hard
dives. I came across an ad that has a couple of intersting prices. The ones
I am looking at are: Miniscribe 3053 45meg 25ms for 289, its mfm and 5.25
inch Miniscribe 8051 44meg 28 ms for 299, it scsi and 3.5 inch
I'm really not sure which one to get. I have two internal floppys, so I
would have to get an 5.25 frame for the scsi drive. I dont know much about
hardware, so I really need help. Is there a speed difference using the mfm
drive? (A2090a controller). Just looking, I would choose the 3053 since its
the right size, cheaper, and a touch faster. But what do I know. HELP!!!
