Dear folks and Amiga Lovers everywhere, I have just purchase a HP Deskjet + printer and I am very excited about the quality of the text and even the graphic output. However, version 1.3 AmigaDos has the printer driver only for the HP Deskjet and not the updated "Plus" model. I am losing out on grey scales and some other features I would like to try until I get this new driver. Can anyone steer me in the write (textual pun) direction? Thanks in advance, . . John F. Abess, M.D.

John, you should find some DeskJet drivers in Library 7 that will help you. Our club newsletter editor uses one called BetterDeskJet and likes it very much. BETRDS.ARC/B 16K 24-Jul-89 Printer driver for DeskJet – BetterDeskJet There may be newer and better ones there, though. Here is one that looks good, and Joanne Dow is a good programmer: DSKJTP/B 8K 20-Oct-89 DeskJet PLUS printer driver from Joanne Dow ……Betty

Betty, you certainly are a help to me. I will try out your recommendations. Incidentally, I attempted to learn more about the people who were helping me such as yourself, however, received something like invalid ID or no ID when I plugged in everybody's ID who did send me a response. Thanks again, John.

Dr. John; I own a DJ+ and I too am very happy with it. I have downloaded both of the aformentioned printer drivers, and although they do help with graphics, I have found that many of the word processors and other text generators still cause occasional problems with things like changing fontsI have written most of the software mfgs. for assistance, and hopefully will be enlightened with help soon. By the way, I highly recommend two things for your system. 1) TOPForm- The Premier Form Maker for the Amiga.- This program is invaluable for producing forms and also comes with a "make your own Printer Driver" uitility that lets you send control codes to your Deskjet+ (see your printer manual). With this you can tell the program to do ANYTHING that your printer can do. I use it for word processing half the time because my Word Processor (Pen Pal- which I do not recommend for use with our printer), won't let me change fonts in the middle of a document. Which brings me to 2) If you don't already have one, an additional Font Cartrige is well worth the expense. I have the Helv Collection and the quality is fantastic. The proportional fonts are playing havoc with my text handlers, but I'm working on it. Take care and good luck. P.S. Excuse the sloppy format. I'm not used to the editor yet so I just leave it the way it is.

John, I'm afraid that most of us have not been very good about filling in the Member Directory in this forum. I'm sure I never put anything there! Probably the others have not done it either. Sorry you got no response at all. There is a sysop roster that you can read from the ANNouncements, to learn more about the sysops – but I don't think the updated version has been posted lately. I know that mine had the wrong PPN – one I have not used in nearly two years. Otherwise, what is there is true, but not up-to-date. ……Betty

Thanks, Betty. Since it is the rigour to not put in personal information, I will cancel my own. I guess people can ask if they want to know something, although, it is interesting to see what they volunteer on their own. I can tell that you are a conscientious person. I appreciate your responses and promise not to keep buggiing you. Bye.

John, you are definitely NOT bugging me. As we stay around here, most of us learn a great deal about each other. I can tell you a great deal about many of the regulars here – and have met quite a few of them personally. A number of us were at DevCon in Atlanta last month, and we used the opportunity to get to know each other. Others will be coming to SIGGRAPH in Dallas next week, and I live just outside Dallas, so I hope to meet many more of our folks there. If you are a REAL nightowl, you will find quite a few of us in the conference room around midnight, most nights. If you ever sign on and see the message xx members are in conference, come down to CO room one and meet us. We'd like to know you. ……Betty

It would be nice if Whap were updated to allow easy access to the directory. It would probably be far more used if it were automatic. I know that I avoid using CI$ manually like the plague! — Ethan

True, Ethan. Over in ROOTS forum, the directory is used constantly, because people list the sirnames they are studying under INTERESTS in that directory. We can see if someone else is interested in a family that interests us by running through those interests. VERY useful. I don't think we've thought of a way to use ours so well, so it gets ignored. ……Betty
