Dear Bill,
This is probably going to seem like quite the amature question to you,
but is there any way to get 4.2 to recognize a color monitor for
WP 4.2 on Rainbow?
I have DOS 3.1 and a standard DEC Rainbow color monitor. I have no
end of software available for color graphics, but I have not gotten it
to recognize color yet. Can it be done?

Jeff,
When DEC designed the Rainbow, the company assumed that the only time
anyone would want to display color on the monitor is in graphics mode.
Therefore, the color monitor is wired so that the text mode — which is
what Word Perfect deals with — only receives the green signal.
On the other hand, the Rainbow is also capable of driving two monitors
and once: one (presumably monochrome) displaying text, the other displaying
graphics simultaneously.
It is possible to hard-wire changes in the monitor's color display.
Doing so involves jumper cables with potentiometers that divert the green
signal to other wires. Thus you could mix green with red and get yellow.
There used to be a file in the hardware library describing how to do
this wiring job. If you can't find it and want to proceed, I can see if I
have a copy off line.

No question seems to "amature" to me. You should have seen the ones I
asked (and still do) when I first started in the computer field <grin>.
Seriously though, Carl has a lot more knowledge in this area than I do, and
it looks like he's dropped a few ideas your way, so I'll let him help until
he gets stuck, or there's something I can answer <smile>.
