#Pro Problems
3 messages in this thread
I have both a Pro 350 and a Pro 380. On the 350 I am running V2.0 of P/OS.
I have Kermit, but cannot seem to get it to work. What do I have to do to
Get my kermit to talk with Compuserves Kermit? Is there something that I
may be missing? I did not get documentation with kermit so I don't know
what may have to be altered from Kermits default settings.
On the 380, I am running V3.2 of P/osOS. I cannot get my game programs to
run on it. They run fine under 2.0. Is there something about V3.2 that is
different? I am new to both the PRO and to this conference. Any help will
be appreciated. If you need more to go on, I will be here with my ears
open! Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are a number of differences between P/OS V2 and V3, and no doubt
one of these is eating your games. Fundamentally V2 is a single-user
system and V3 is designed to support multiple users. The directory
structure, and the way that interacts with the menu system, is pretty
radically different. In addition, V3 is a major release different from V2
so there is new functionality and some changes to old functionality which
might be affecting them.
WHen you say you can't get Kermit to work on the 350, exactly what is
happening? Can you at least go through Kermit as a terminal-emulator? If
not, then it is probably not set up with the right parameters to match your
modem (baud rate etc.) or it doesn't know where your modem is (external, or
Telephone Management System?).

Michael:
Allow me to inject my 4 cents worth here…the reason for your P/OS
games running on one CPU and not the other is because of the
differences in the addresses of the video cards; the 350 and 380 are
entirely different. I happen to know because I wrote one of those games
myself in 1982, before the 380 was in production.
The three "standard" games passed from hand to hand that are PRO-350
specific are the DECman, DECipede and DECLander games. There are
versions for the PRO-380 but these versions were only available from
DEC's internal network. There are a handful of people who do have these
and other games for the PRO, some in both versions.
If you're interested in getting the rest of the P/OS games for both
platforms drop me a line.

P.S. I can also help you with your Kermit problems and send
electronically both the "BIG" Kermit handbook and the PDP11 specific
version.
