Hello! I'm a new member of this forum looking for the best in anti-virus
pro programs. I've been bitten by the Lazarus virus (on my home computer,
not here at work), although I was running a version of VirusX. After
looking at VirusX, I found it doesn't detect this one. Lazarus wiped the
boot blocks from my disks and renamed them 'Lazarus' on Friday, July 13th.
Fortunately` it didn't find my hard disk. I looked through the Amiga Tech
toolbox & system software libraries, but there's just too much there to
assimilate. I was hoping someone could give me their advice on this.
Thanks much. ` Also, I'm a developer looking for an Amiga artist. I've got
a game that's been picked up by SSI, but I can't draw for beans. There'd
be no money up front, but would work on royalities (I know it's a rough way
to go, but we all start somewhere.) If anyone is interested, yank my
chain!

Are you sure about this Lazarus virus. If I remember correctly, the OS
itself labels a disk 'Lazarus' after some error, but I don't remeber which
one. I'll bet this is your problem. Sorry I couldn't be more help but
I'm pretty sure this isn't a virus unless someone was really devious.

Tell me more about that Lazarus virus. Last I heard of it, it came about
this way:
Amiga user had a disk error, and the requester came up that said "Correct
the disk with DiskDoctor."
Amiga user follows instructions and runs DiskDoctor on the sick disk.
DiskDoctor renames the disk to Lazarus. (It always does – kind of a joke:
the disk was resurrected, Lazarus was resurrected; disk gets named
Lazarus.)
AmigaUser, now knowing that this is what DiskDoctor always does, decides
that he has a virus.
Does that fit your case?

Diskdoctor renames disks that it has cleaned up. I think… I have seen
it rename one of my disks Lazarus, I then took the necessary files off of
the disk and reformatted as it directs.
Have you ever had need to use Diskdoctor in the C directory?

Hey yeah! Thanx for the help on the "virus". You're right, it was
DiskDoctor that changed the name to Lazarus. The reason I thought it was a
virus was because it happened to two of my boot disks on Friday the 13th.
Too much of a coincidence; but I ran DiskDoctor on both disks, and things
were fine after that. I was wondering why none of my other disks got
hosed.
