Are they accepting orders for AMAXII upgrade yet?

They sent out upgrade offers to registered owners already, so if you
haven't gotten a mailing you may have a problem.

Anyone know which SCSI controllers are supported by AMAXII? I have the
SUpra WORDSYNC.

I got one of those upgrade offers for AMAX II. Doggone it, my timing sucks.
If I read the upgrade notes correctly, II will be available to use standard
Amiga floppy drives, meaning I should not have bought a Cutting Edge Mac
drive last month -would have been wiser to buy a third Amiga floppy instead
and upgrade to II to make use of it.

Yes, they are taking orders for A-MAX II now. If you registered with
them, you should be getting an upgrade notice soon (if not already – I got
mine Wednesday).
A-Max II PLUS (? – is that what it is called?), which is the HARDWARE
upgrade for A2000's that will include LocalTalk ports, won't be out until
the Fall. They aren't taking orders for THAT yet.

I came into this thread late. I have heard of an emulator board that plugs
into an expansion slot in the 2000. Is this the AMAX II and if so is it
available through some retail outlet or only from the manufacturer. Thanks
for any help

Yes, Rick, A-Max II is available as a plug in board for the 2000. It has
all the features of the regular A-Max II plus it reads your mac disks in
your Amiga drives which means you don't have to buy extra drives. It also
has 2 extra serial ports, it is compatible with the AppleTalk network. The
ad in the August AmigaWorld says this board will be available in Fall '90.

I hate to be picky, but the upgrade literature I got from ReadySoft (makers
of AMax) state that AMax II is NOT an internal board, but that AMax II Plus
will be. Plus is to be available this Fall. When I called them last week,
they told me that AMax II is due to ship at the end of this week. (It was
orig. announced to ship 7/31, but we all know how that goes in this
industry.)
It looks like the only big difference between II and II Plus is the plug-in
aspect.

I too hate to be picky, but it seems to me that the ability to read
and write mac format disks directly in amiga drives is a big advantage that
II + has over the standard II version. For people in the mac community,
the appletalk compatibility is also a very very big plus.

You are probably right. For me the big advantage is SCSI ports and Mac
sounds. It's all in what you want to do with it, I guess. Since my
applications are in the natural language realm, I want to use sounds and
MacRecorder, which requires a SCSI port.
BTW, is it possible for a non-Apple user to use Applelink?

Applelink? Sure a non-Apple user can use Applelink as long as you're a
subscriber (paid).

If you will check the ad on page 2 of the August AmigaWorld you
will see that the A-Max II Plus (card) has the ability to read, WRITE, and
format Macintosh 3.5 disks with a standard Amiga 3.5 drive.
It is true, however, that the regular (non-card) version of A-Max
II will need a mac drive, just like A-Max I.
Has anyone heard if there will be a software package that will use the AMAX
II Plus (Board version) to control 1 amiga floppy drive? This would be
great for MAC-to-DOS; it could use the AMAX to make one of your floppies a
Mac floppy while keeping the other a standard Amiga floppy. This would
only seem natural!

No, this thread was about "standard" Amiga accelerators – 68020 and
68030 accelerators that plug into the CPU slot.
The A-Max II *CARD* isn't supposed to be released until sometime in the
Fall. When it is released, I suppose you'd be able to get it either
directly from Readysoft or retail outlets that wish to carry it.
