Hello everyone. I'm doing another conversion (everone groans) so here is a
question that I never did get an answer to. Im looking for a cross
reference between Macintosh and Amiga. Has anyone ever attempted to write
anything like this? I saw some minor examples in Dr Dobbs but nothing very
substantial. Now my next question is this. If no one has such a thing
will anyone be interested in one later <grin> I'm pretty sure that my ROM
Kernal and Inside macintosh will be worn out one way of the other. Thanks!
I've seen lots of Mac<->Windows<->OS/2 conversion libraries and books and
such, but unfortunately the people who worked on these things didn't view
the Amiga as important enough a platform to handle.
At the broadest level, the Mac and Amiga kernals are kinda the same, at
least as far as the user interface goes (event driven, etc). But the
minute you get into any detail they start becoming radically different
(like the fact that it's _your_ program's responsibility to pass events
along to desk accessories, which strikes me as unbelievably strange…).
If someone did do an Amiga<->Mac cross reference or conversion library, I'm
sure alot of people would find it very useful.

Lattice once had a Mac to Amiga conversion product… I don't know what
happened to it. I seem to remember it had either new routines, or Amiga
translations of key Mac toolbox calls. Someone's written a Mac-compatible
link library for Microsoft Windows, which would be interesting… Be sure
to pick up a copy of the Viewport Technician book, it's great for
discussing porting issues.
Hiya John, Viewport Technician? Who publishes it?! Yeah I heard about
the Mac-IBM Windows thingie in "Midnight Engineering". That was kind of a
spark that set me off. I have a strong feeling that great things are going
to be happening to the Amiga. Some of my straight laced Mac friends are
talking Amiga more and more. Mac may be $$ but all the "good" stuff is NOT
all mac. Hey how are you doing anything with fonts etc? I was dusting off
the prints for an Amiga Direct print laser project that Mark M. and I
canned when we went to ISC. I still think that would be the way to go.
Heck if its good enough for NeXT? Grin… Its almost good enough for
Amiga. All we need is some MAJOR software like a postscript clone, Fast
FX80 Emulation, and maybe a HPGL converter for CAD users. What do ya say?

BTW, I just mentioned this book in another forum while discussing windowing
