#New Amiga buyer
4 messages in this thread
Hello everyone, I don't yet own an Amiga but am about to buy one. I guess I
could save some money if I could buy under the power up deal, can anybody
offer any help as to how I could do it? I've been looking at the 3000.
Fantastic machine!!!!any suggestions from anyone as to what I'll need to
get started, like which monitor to get and how much better is the 25 hz
than the 16hz. I will be doing word processing and some data base stuff and
then who knows Thanks Rick Mace 70642,2276
All you need is to prove ownership of a previous Commodore computer. The
simplest way to do that would be to look for an old C-64 for sale in a
newspaper. You could probably getr one for about $50 (or less). Take a
picture of you at the computer, write the serial number on the back of the
computer and take that to a participating dealer and *POOF* instant
power-up. The deciding factor over 16 or 25 Mhz would be do you need the
extra speed? My understanding is you cannot upgrade to the 25Mhz model
later if you get the 16Mhz (you'd have to but an entire accelerator board).
Personally, I'd slplurg and get the 25Mhz model. You can NEVER have enough
speed (or Large enough hard drive!) <G>

Craig,
What Craig said is essientially correct but unless there is a new price
for the powerup the 25/100 is way overpriced. The price difference allows
you to buy the 25/50, 4megs Fast RAM, move the 1 meg of fast to chip and
buy another Hard drive (Q105 if you so choose) for about $20 more. And you
can always buy the other stuff later if you are short now with no upgrade
problems.
