#Hole in Surface/Again

My previous question on "drilling" a hole used a cube to simplify my
question. However, as soon as I uploaded the question, I realized it is
easy to drill a hole through a simple cube. My real problem is that I have
a complex shape that I need to "drill" a hole in. I don't know if this
gives you guys enough info, but take a shot, please. — Steve
Drilling a hole in a complex object takes some work but it can be done.
Here is how I've done it.
1. Take a cylinder and place it where you would like the hole to be,
reverse the normals on the object now, makes it easier later. Also
remove the faces on the top and bottom of the cylinder. 2. With the A
select button on, select the cylinder. 3. Attach the cylinder to the
desired object, making one object. 4. Change to the B select button 5.
Align your view to be looking down the cylinder. 6. Using
Select/Face/Region 1 select all the faces that are around the
cylinder, including the cylinder, then INVERT the selection set. 7.
Use Display/Hide/Face to hide everything in the model but the cylinder
and the intersecting faces. 8. Now it gets fun, looking down the
cylinder, remove all faces that are
completely within the cylinder's circumference. 9. Modify/Edge/Divide
all faces that cross the circumference. You may have
to do this a few times. 10. And here comes the hard part, you have to
use several views to move
vertex points to align, then weld. Going back to the A select button
so you can see the cylinder walls, helps.
I'm afraid there is no 'simple' way do it, otherwise.
