Well, I'm sure you've heard of the thousand points of light "thing".
How about a thousand points in a dxf file brought into shaper by
dxf3DS. Unless I did something utterly stupid, and wasted several
hours of time in the process, there is no option in dxf3ds to connect
vertices. How about having "Weld" also work for shaper files? Seems
like essentially the same "thing". Thnx, LAM
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, Larry. The shaper can currently
bring in polylines of up to 999 points. Are you referring to
bringing in many discontinuous lines that have coincident vertices
and converting them to one line? If so, please zip up an example dxf
file and email it to me. Thanks,
The DXF file is of a script logo scanned in and converted to DXF by
Coreldraw. Started off with about 5000 vertices. Obviously, going to
have to figure out how to do -that- better. Anyhow, the problem was
the many disontinuous lines with coincident vertices. I'll attempt
to email it to you. First time, so anything may happen! BTW, did you
get a prj file from Stephen Grisez 72730,3634 with the problem with
the robot hand in the tutorial where the hand would rotate around the
X axis, even though the Rotate X button was locked? I had the same
problem, but I think I went through the tutorial a second time, and
got it working right. Never did figure out what I did different.

Larry, there is a method that you can use to recompose the individual
line segments into a continuous segment.
By importing the dxf file into AutoCAD, and selecting one of the line
segments with the pedit command, AutoCAD will ask if you want to
convert that line segment into a polyline. Once converted into a
polyline, additional options will allow you to join the rest of the
line segments in the drawing to the polyline (assuming the accuracy
of the coincident points exported from Corel-draw is high enough).
Simply select all lines in the drawing with the AutoCAD "window"
selection, and AutoCAD will process all the segments that can be
joined.
Once the "joining" is completed, you should have one single polyline
in the drawing. Create a new dxf file of this drawing from AutoCAD,
and run that through dxf3ds and you should have a continous path to
use.
Keep in mind the 999 point path limitation…..if your polyline
contains more than 999 vertices, there is "weeding" programs
available in the ACAD forum, that will "weed" out unnecessary
vertices, and reduce the number of points that construct the
polyline. Some of the accuracy of the polyline will be lost of
course, but the results are usually pretty good.
