#PC-Task reviews?

Has anyone used Chris Hames' PC-TASK with any frequency? I want to update my
old A1000 to an A1200, but the wife wants to be able to run Quicken which I
would think PC-Task could handle (Quicken for DOS that is…) Does any one have
an stories (good or bad) involving PC-TASK? I've used the demo and that was
slow as beens on my old 68000! (A bit faster than transformer however!) Thanks!

PC-Task is "tolerable" speed wise with my A1200/030 40mhz. It is a good
shade slower when the A1200 is run with the 020 14mhz, but even that would
be a good bit faster than a 68000 7mhz system.
The current PC-TASK lets you emulate a VGA monochrome screen in DOS when
using an AGA machine.

Have you run any benchmarks with PC-Task to see how it stands up against real
IBM CPU's?
Also, what programs have you run successfully with PC-Task? Is there any
specific system configs that PC-Task has a problem with?
I REALLY want another Amiga…. but unless Quicken runs on it, I'll be reduced
to being a PC owner!
I've only run some Aquarium Maintence programs, but I remember talking to
someone in a store once who used it for running Quicken, I believe. I
haven't run any benchmark tests.

Well, you could get an AMax or Emplant and run the Mac version. Just a
thought. <G>

I got PcTask for the same reason. My wife was comfortable with Quicken and I
didn't want to spring for an expensive BB.
I run Quicken ver 4.0 on my A2000. I do have a GVP 030-40 accelerator.
It runs like a 286 10mhz. I've tried Pctask on the basic 68000 but the screen
writing was slow. As a low cost solution, it's pretty decent.
We've been using it for over a year now.

Thanks Dean… that's the answer I was looking for…. although I will be at a
bit of a speed loss running on an 020 based system.
I ran Landmark last night on my 68000 just to get an idea of what I might be
dealing with speed-wise and it didn't look good…. however, I am willing to
run the risk! Thanks again….
You can't run any programs that require an 80×86 processor either. At least it
was like that when I tried it. I don't know how many programs require that you
run it on an 80×86. Besides that, it worked fine with my HD partition that I
use with my 386 BB. ^had my figures badly placed 🙂
