What is SID? (previously mentioned in one of your messages)
Commercial? Shareware? On CIS?

SID is a most excellent (that's Bill and Ted talk) directory utility.
Version 1.06 is shareware and should be available somewhere on here. SID
2.0 will be out "real soon now" and promisses to the most full featured
directory utililty available. Nearly 99% of it is configurable. Timm Martin
is putting the finishing touches on it now as we speak.

When was the last time you heard from Timm. I'm a beta tester and have
not yet received my beta program. His BBS hasn't answered for more than a
month. I know of no way to contact him. I have begun to think something
terrible has happened to him. If you have a number I could really use it!
I havent been able to get the BBS to answer either. Someone mentioned that
he is putting the finishing touches on SID and didnt want any more input on
it so he could complete it. I doubt you will get a beta version at this
point. You never called the board before he took it down? He had it up for
a good while and thre were many versions of the beta SID 2.0 available. I
pretty much think that the beta testing job of most of the testers is now
over with. Perhaps we will get a letter in the mail informing us of SID
2.0's progress. That would be nice.

Timm may be a great programmer, but his organizational skills are a bit
rusty. I tried to become a beta user on his first BBS, but he was planning
to move shortly, so I wrote down his new number and waited. Unfortunately,
he listed the wrong number on BBS, so it took some time to find the right
number. Once I contacted him via BBS he said he would let me beta test it,
and I would receive something in the mail. First he forgot to mail me the
stuff, then he was having problems getting access to a laser printer.
Finally I got the letter, which was a short demographic form (that could
have been done on his BBS). It also said in his letter that if I sent back
$3 with th eform, he would mail me a copy of the latest beta version. That
has been more than a month ago!
His BBS has been down since then, and I have received no response from him
(no disk, no note, nothing).
It's not the $3, it's just that I feel a bit "yanked around". I'm sure
he doesn't mean anything by it, and that SID is more a labor of love than a
professionally run software company. My letter probably fell thru some
crack (the same place his BBS went). I hope he finishes SID and become
"reachable" one of these days…

Well, I heard that he had gotten a major programming job at/for Proctor &
Gamble, and he was in the process of moving (of which P&G was paying for).
And that SID 2.0 was put on the back burner (so to speak) temporarily. But
this was about a month ago. I'll see if I can find a new info.

Is this his SECOND job in the past few months? He recently graduated
from school in Florida for a nonprogramming job. Has he jumped to another
job, and moved again? It would explain his sudden disappearance, but he
COULD HAVE returned my letter in a month's time.
I would appreciate any information you might have about a way to get in
touch with him. I'm using Directory Opus on my 2.0 OS system, but I was
really looking forward to SID 2.0!

I haven't found out anything yet (AmiExpo and all here in Orlando), but
I'll see what I can find out tommorrow.

I'd appreciate it, SID 2.0 sounds very promising. Unfortunately
obtaining it is getting extremely annoying!

Roy, we will be bringing the first fully supported version of Directory
Opus to the market in early August. As a current owner, you'll be able to
upograde through us (INOVAtronics, that is.)

Hurray! No more international money orders and calculating U.S. Dollars
to Autralian Dollars! Will J. Potter be furnishing your company with his
U.S. registered owners, or do I have to re-register with your company.
What version of Directory Opus will you be starting with? My program is
version 2.05. With Power Windows, and CanDo, I think that Directory Opus
will make a good addition to your present excellent line of products.
Any idea when Power Window for OS 2.0 is being planned for release???

phone a few times, and that he was just overburdened with his new job.

Thanks for your reply. Timm's BBS appears to be operational again, but
I still don't have access to the beta area. Since it is an expensive toll
call, I don't have the luxury to review the message area. I assume that
when he found that he was overworked, he simply pulled the plug on his BBS
and his SID mail. Not a great idea for a commercial outfit, but since this
is a hobby with him, it is understandable.

SID STATUS REPORT:
Here is a schedule I have set up for myself and SID:
July 28th ……. Configuration, Font, and Layout editing — DONE!!
August 4th …… Color editing
August 11th ….. Button editing
August 18th ….. Custom menu editing
August 25th ….. Description editing
September 1st … Final beta release/bug fix
September 8th … NATIONAL RELEASE
I am going to work my hardest to stick to this schedule. I will upload a
new beta version each Sunday night and post a bulletin detailing my
progress.
If you sent me a check with the SID v2.00 order form, I will NOT cash it
until SID v2.00 is shipping. I regret that I cannot notify you if I've
received your check, but I need to devote all my time to finishing SID.
Thanks for your support and patience. I've put my heart and soul into this
program, and I think you'll really like it. Please pass this information
on to all interested parties.

Thanks for the info. I logged onto his BBS on 8/5/91 and downloaded
beta 18 (which was placed on his BBS on 7/28/91), so he seems to be a
little behind schedule, but I'm having fun playing around with SID 2.0.
Both SID and Directory Opus are powerful file handling utilities, with
somewhat different strengths and weaknesses. I look forward to seeing the
completed version of SID 2.0 as well as the new Opus 3.0 release.
(Gee… ain't competition great!!!)
