I run a BBS using the DLG Professional Bulletin Board Operating System (DLG for short!), and bought the ASDG DSB a couple of years ago (when I was running different BBS software) to be ready to go multi-line when the time came. That worked out just fine, but I now have a problem. Now that I think I've found software that I'm satisfied with, and am about to try to get into FidoNet with it, I'm told that ASDG's serial.device replacement (siosbx.device) will not allow me to use either port on the DSB for my FidoNet use–that I'll have to use the standard Commodore serial port (or buy another multi-port card), because the siosbx.device will immediately GURU if you try to use it in shared mode, with both tasks using RTS/CTS, and I need that capability (going between TrapDoor, the front-end program, and the BBS itself). The authors tell me that they've brought this to ASDG's attention, and were told that the problem was not ASDG's. Since DLG works fine on other multi-serial cards, in shared mode, I find it hard to believe that the problem is in the BBS software. In any case, it would seem that you (ASDG) would be interested, because this particular BBS software is coming to the release stage, where it'll be available to anyone wishing to run a BBS. Those wishing to run multi-line, and wanting to get into FidoNet (or other network) will need a multi-port card, and I'd like to recommend the ASDG Dual-Serial Board. As of now, I tell those who ask that they'd be better off with another card, because of the GURU associated with shared mode and RTS/CTS. With the CheckPoint Technologies people apparently out of business, and ASDG's card not an acceptable solution, about the only solution left is Commodore's multi-serial card, which also has some problems (which apparently can be worked around), but the ASDG card is, in many ways, a much better card. If only it didn't GURU when you try shared mode with RTS/CTS handshaking! With the proliferation of multi-line capable Amiga BBS software, it would seem that ASDG might want in, so as to sell a few DSB's! Is there
