Never mind Andy, I found the problem. I have a bad ram chip on my accelerator card. I ran the A2058test program, and it caught the error. Damn shame none of the other memory test programs couldn'g find the problem, would have saved me some time & grief. Gene

Gene, what other memory test programs had you tried?

I tried one called MEMTEST, which was in an archive with some other diagnostics. This one ran, but didn't report any errors. The other one called MD, which also came with a program called MQ, which would supposedly "quarantine" the bad memory (by allocating it, not releasing it and then quitting) that MD found. This crashed my system. Sorry for the delay in responding, but my machine has been at the dealers (not getting fixed, but thats another story…). Gene.

Glad you found the problem. Ram problems can be hard to track down. andy
