#EGA/VGA and XT Bridge

Has anyone set up an XT Bridgeboard with an EGA/VGA card? If so, can you
answer the following questions:
1. What board did you use? Do you think most boards would work? 2. What
monitor did you connect to? Did the standard Amiga video connect to it to?
How did you wire that up (some hardware switch)? 3. What's the setup
procedure as far as the Amiga Janus software?

I've not done it…but have seen it described many times..it's
relatively easy to do. No idea on the specific VGA cards that will/won't
work but once you have one…you plug it in, hook a *separate* VGA monitor
to the card, set your BridgeBoard for NO default video mode, and turn off
the 2 video modes in PCPrefs.
You still have to run PCWindow to "activate" the keyboard for the
MS-DOS side…but your video will now be on the separte monitor, not your
Amiga monitor.

Well, that's good to know (although not quite what I was hoping for).
Everything I've seen suggested that it wouldn't be hard to do. I've just
resisted doing it because it seemed that it would use up valuable desk real
estate (the extra monitor). I'm hoping to find a monitor that could handle
both EGA/VGA input and standard Amiga input (not at the same time) and rig
up a hardware switch to set the monitor depending on what I'm doing. If
anyone has recommendations…

Yes, I've heard of folks doing that also. Just about any
multi-sync that handles both 15.75kHz and 31.5kHz horizontal input will
work (both use 60Hz vertical sync).

I have an EGA card working with my 2088. It's one of those nameless
Japanese brands which I got for about 50 bucks. I'm using a Mitsubishi
Diamond Scan monitor which is great because it has both a TTL port for the
EGA and an Analog port for the Amiga. There is a switch on the back of the
monitor which enables you to move from one port to the other. I would
highly recommend this setup to anyone who wants to use an
EGA card with their 2088. It works great! “

Don: I've got the same setup; I'm using a VGA card, but when you take the
digital output to the monitor, the card defaults to EGA.
Oooh! That's exactly what I wanted to do with my system! I just wasn't
sure whether there was a monitor that would handle it. Could you answer a
couple of questions:
1. Would the Diamond Scan work with a VGA card?
2. What type of wiring do you need in the back? Is it just the standard
Amiga monitor cable for the Amiga side and a 9-pin monitor wire for the IBM
side?

The Diamond Scan works fine with a VGA card (running one on it now). But
if you're going to use the analog VGA mode of the PC and the Amiga video at
the same time, you'll need a switch box.
I used to my old AT and EGA on the TTL input and Amiga on the
Analog,!gorked fine (except for haviow to reach behind to get to the
switch).
And while I havne't looked back there for awhile, I seem to remember that
the analog input on the Diamondscan is NOT the standard 15 pin VGA one.
