Ray, what is the current price on Topas? I mean fully configured to be competitive with 3DS? Are they even competitive yet?

Doug, Though price is a consideration, the local dealer and my contacts with the company are in sharp contrast with my Chris/Autodesk experience. Indeed Topaz is nearly twice the money but if I can count on support I'll just have to wait a little longer before I purchase. At any rate, the redeeming factor for 3DS is that it is perceived superior and this forum can provide some support (especially the Yost Group). Ray

I have followed the thread a little Ray, but I will add my two cents here. Autodesk's support policies, i.e., going through your dealer, are suspect in my opinion. However, I love the company and I firmly believe that if it really is all that bad and folks keep complaining, they will remedy it. Autodesk did not become the largest CAD software vendor in the world by being unresponsive or stupid. Have faith! In any case, there are workable solutions RIGHT NOW! For one, call and deal with a reputable vendor like Kevin Krell at CSA. For two, leave mail for the authors and developers right here on CIS (anyone got the PPN for the TOPAS author?) and three, get both products! Whether they are comprable or not I can guarantee you that they will both be infinitely useful and each will have unique merits that warrant their price. The only mistake Autodesk has made so far in my book is leaving the price of 2.0 at $3,000. It should be $5000. An avid fan and someone whose business survives in part because of Autodesk… Doug Wolfgram GRAFX Group
