#3d studio
8 messages in this thread
Hey!
As you all are probably tired of hearing, my freind has a copy of 3DS, and
we have another question.
What is the deal with the file formatts available? Animator handled 320X240
and saved .fli, as did 3DS 1.0. Animator Pro handles 640X480 and saves
.flc, 3DS 2.0 is STILL 320X240 AND .FLI! What gives?
I guess the idea of a $500 upgrade for Autocad went to their heads and they
just figured they could milk stuido for another upgrade this way…hmmmmmm
James
I am using the RCPADI driver to render to 640×480 resolution and 3DS r2
_is_ saving my files in .FLC format. What driver is your friend using to
render?

I don't know (he is kinda new to the whole comp. thing). Where would he
find the rcpadi driver?
James
James, from your questions me thinks you need to examine your installation
and performance guide. RCPADI isn't a driver, put an environment variable
that points to a driver. What driver you use is up to you and your
hardware choices. Look at pages 29-30 and 45-55.
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. Animator runs 320×200,
.FLI's. The .FLI format is inherently a 320×200 format. .FLC is a
different format that allows for higher resolutions. 3D Studio r2 will
play hi-rez .FLC's (as long as your video driver supports it — try using
VESA) as well as .FLI's. AAPro will work with either .FLI's or .FLC's. It
will save to either format. As for AutoCAD's upgrade pricing, you can
iquiry about that over in the AutoCAD forum, GO ACAD~.
Phill Thay arn't giving away Autocad, thay'er giving away Studio. And boy
are are thare some PO'ed dealers and committed users. Source: Siggraph 92.

I haven't heard that Studio was being _given_ away at Siggraph. Special
promotion, yes. Thanks for the feedback; I've forwarded it on to product
management.
Sorry Phil, giveaway wasn't the proper word. But half price in the
software biz is pretty close to giveaway <g>. On the other hand, if you
want to have a promotion and offer Autocad 12 to people who upgraded to
release 2 of 3DS for half price, I don't think you'll find too many 3DS
users who will be seriously bummed out. But I don't think that'll make the
dealers very happy either. <g>
