We would like to record a FLI to NTSC composite in real time. We have the Targa+ 16/32, DiaQuest DQ-422, and Animator Pro. I've been told that there is a way. By creating a FLI in 3DS, importing it to Animator Pro, then doing something with the Targa+. But it gets to be all smoke and mirrors from that point forward. Can anyone lay out the specifics for us. Do we need the TPANIP program from Truevision? How do we run a FLI on Targa in real time? What mode should the Targa+ be in? I know you are thinking 'This should be posted on Truevision'. Well, it has been…but no real specific information came from that. Your direction would be greatly appreciated…as always. Steve Pidgeon Pulse Productions Tampa, FL

well you 3/4 the way there. first make sure you have the ani pro driver for the targa. then from ani pro set the screen size to the appropiate targa rez.(ok first set the targa up say in mode 9 with tmode). then just load the fli and record to a vcr. you must also have the appropiate cables also. the targa 16/32 will output ntsc, rgb,or s-vhs so if you don't have the correct cables look in your targa manual and you will see a number for cables-to-go , call them and they can set you up. also if you need the targa driver its here somewhere in the libs, i think in whats new section. sherwood

Sherwood, When using the Anipro Targa driver, the res should be set to 640 or higher on the Targa+. This GREATLY increases the playback speed of the animations, ( there's mention of this in the driver docs somewhere). You would'nt believe the difference in speed when set to 640 x 480, at least on my system. It's almost real realtime! well, maybe you would believe it. David

yes your correct it is faster. i think the higher you go in rez the faster it plays on the targa. i don't know why but its nice. sherwood

Steve, You need the AAPro Driver for the Targa+. It should be in one of the libs here, BRO:ALL KEY:TARGA should find it for you, if not, contact your dealer. Jay

Stephen, To add to Sherwood's reply, set your Targa+ to 640 x 480 resolusion ( tmode 17 ). Your Flics will play back much faster in that mode. David

Thanks to all for your input… This forum is a tremendous asset to those of us supporting and using 3DS in a production environment, while we are still learning all the capabilities of the Autodesk products. Hopefully, as we learn we can contribute to others questions, as well as all of you have supported us. Thanks to all… Steve Pidgeon Pulse Productions Tampa, FL
