#Training

I'm interested in getting some training in animation, trouble is I
don't think there is much in this area.(Cedar Rapids, Ia.) Maybe just a
seminar to start with. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
John,
Have you checked your local Autodesk Multimedia Dealer. They are supposed
to have the ability to sell, support and train in Autodesk's multimedia
products 3d Studio, Animator Pro (theoretically). Or were you just talking
about animation in general? You will probably have to pick a product and
train in that since they are all a bit different. On the PC platform
Autodesk seems to have cornered the market in reasonably priced
professional software. On the Mac platform there is some excellent
reasonably priced software for animation (Macromind, Swivel 3d, Raydream
and many more) but the hardware prices are outrageous. If you want a
general class have you researched your local junior colleges and other
(possibly private) education institutes.
As far as Autodesk's products the formal education classes are
few-and-far-between, even in large metropolitan areas, and it's down to
dealers and working professionals (like me) to offer private tutoring.

Autodesk is currently designing curriculum for the Multimedia Training
Centers for 3DStudio classes. The first classes will probably be ready to
be presented in the first quarter of '93.
The format for the classes will be similar to the AutoCad training at the
200 plus ATCs around the country, intensive (24-32 hrs) sessions for
working professionals. Focus will be on the use of 3DStudio and with
coverage on input/output, design issues, use of AAPRO, etc.
A schedule or list of locations is not available yet but you could contact
your local ATC or AutoDesk later in the year and I'll see if we can't get
the schedule posted on this forum when it's ready.
Hope this is of some help to you.
