RE: WHAP! Being relatively new to the AmigaTech forum, I have noticed that several of the individual messages are followed by a line that says "….By Whap!" (or something like that). I understand that Whap! is some form of bionic CompuServe user program, bur I am not sure exactly what it is. If it helps in the phone bill (which I suspect it might), could someone please let me know how I can obtain (and $, if known). By the way, after reading some of your public mail, I am impressed by the general sharing of info, advice and stories. I hope to kick in what info I can in the future. Take care, all! —-Bill

Bill, Whap! is a way to minimize time online by reading/writing messages, reviewing catalogs of files, selecting downloads off line. Plus it is fun to use. Whap! is two programs. Whap! (by Jim Nangano) is the navigating part and View!(by Steve Ahlstrom) is the reader part. The program is in Amigavendor, ATI library, and the latest version is 1.9H. The program works after decompression and setup. Payment is by check (?current amount) and the program is registered by Email. Everyone is waiting on a new program called Autopilot by Steve Ahlstrom that is still in the testing phase. David – via Whap!

Bill: Whap! is an program that automates your forum and Email stuff on CIS… once you set it up, it goes on line, collects mesages from the forums you tell it to go to, gets your mail, creates catalogs of files from the forum libraries (based on your KEYWORD search criteria) and then logs off. With Whap! you can then read all the meesages and reply to them offline, without incurring connect charges and you can also select which files you want to download. The next time you send Whap! back online, it will deliver all of your new messages and replies, and download the files you selected. A demo version of whap is available in the ATI/Whap! library of AmigaVendor. It has a few of the 'neat' features disabled, but is fully functional. If after using the demo version you like it and feel it suits your needs and performs to your satisfactoion, you can get the registered version by sending a check for $40 or $50 (I forget) to ATI, who will then send you a 'magic cookie' Electronic mail that will automatically upgrade and register your demo version of the program. A newer automated front-end for Amiga CIS access is due out very shortly. It is called AutoPilot and is designed for use under 2.0x only and a hires-interlaced screen. AP has many more features than Whap! and will probably cost around $69 or $79. Registered Whap! users will be able to get AutoPilot for $20 (plus the connect time to download the program).
